    • This invention relates to a method and apparatus for mass and/or volume measurements of manufactured articles. More particularly, this invention relates to a method and apparatus for mass and/or volume measurements that can be performed on-line in a part manufacturing process. On-line measurement of the mass or volume of material contained in a specific region of interest of the manufactured items is performed 100% on-line. Real-time process control information is based on real-time measurement of the mass or volume of material contained in a specific region of interest of a manufactured item. Automated quality control inspection for manufactured articles is based on real­time measurement of the mass or volume of material contained in a specific region of interest of manufactured items. A manufacturing closed-loop process is directly corrected to keep it within control limits based on real-time measurement of the mass or volume of material contained in a specific region of interest of manufactured items soon after these items are manufactured.

    • Prior art bathroom and other scales are a poor aid to weight control because they are unable to detect and indicate progress made as a result of a diet program. The invention is a diet scale having a weight progress indicator (2) for indicating progress in a diet program. The scale measures (5) the current weight of the dieter and has a memory (12) that stores an objective weight for the dieter. The scale measures and displays (2) the current weight and the difference between objective weight and the current weight. The scale may also include an objective time entry (58) for the diet program and a display of the deviation between the current weight and the projected weight at the then current time.

    • In a weighing and packaging method, including a series of operations for producing respective packages of goods, each package having a weight within preset allowable weight limits, each of said operations comprises the steps of weighing-out a batch of goods having a weight within the said limits and equal or close to a target weight, and discharging the weighed-out batch into packaging. The respective volumes of the weighed-out batches are monitored, and the target-weights for successive operations of the said series are changed, as between one operation and the next, in dependence upon results obtained from the monitoring, so as to maintain the volume of the goods in each package within predetermined limits.
