    • A take apart safety vehicle wheel asembly including a disc, an inner rim (12) joined to the disc, and an outer rim (14) joined to the disc (16). The disc (16) has a generally centrally located wheel mounting surface and includes an outer annular flange (42) which defines an outer cylindrical surface. The inner rim (12) includes an inboard tire bead seat retaining flange, an inboard tire bead seat, a generally axially extending well, and an outboard tire bead seat which terminates at an axial endmots surface. The outer rim (14) includes an inner mounting surface and outer annular flange. The outer annular flange of the outer rim defines an outboard tire bead seat retaining flange of the take apart safety vehicle wheel assembly and includes an inner surface. An elastomeric member (74) disposed in a cavity defined by the axial endmost surface of the inner rim, the inner surface of the outer annular flange of the outer rim, and the outer cylindrical surface of the outer annular flange of the disc. The take apart safety vehicle wheel assembly further includes only a single weld (54) to join the disc to the inner rim (12); the outer rim being joined to the disc by a plurality of nuts and bolts which are adapted to compress the elastomeric member in the cavity so as to provide an air-tight seal in the take apart safety vehicle wheel assembly between the associated surfaces of the inner rim, the outer rim, and the disc.

    • A take apart safety vehicle wheel asembly including a disc, an inner rim (12) joined to the disc, and an outer rim (14) joined to the disc (16).     • A wheel rim assembly (10) includes a first bead flange and a separable second bead flange (16), the separable second bead flange (16) maintained on a wheel rim (12) of the wheel rim assembly (10) by a retaining ring assembly (20). The retaining ring assembly (20) includes an outboard portion (22) which is partially disposed within an axial opening (18) between the second bead flange (16) and wheel rim (12). The second bead flange (16) and the wheel rim (12) each include an oppositely disposed complementary shaped lobe groove (13, 17) communicating with the axial opening (18). Disposed within the axial opening (18) is a flexible composite corrosion seal (30) comprising a generally rectangularly shaped central flexible member (32) joined with a radially extending flexible base member (35) having a plurality of axially extending protrusions (40) and oppositely disposed, spaced apart flexible lobe members (38, 39) each received within a respective lobe groove (13, 17). The seal (30) is flexible and when installed the lobe members (38, 39) extend radially outwardly to be received within the lobe grooves (13, 17) such that the seal (30) is captured within the axial opening (18) and prevents contaminants from entering into an area (50) between the second bead flange (16) and wheel rim (12) wherein the retaining ring assembly (20) is housed.

    • A take-apart wheel rim and disc assembly (10) for use in a safety tire and wheel assembly includes a pneumatic tubeless tire (12), an O-ring (130) disposed between a wheel mounting disc (40) and opposing surfaces (30 and 88) of inboard and outboard rim parts (80, 16), and a clamp ring (100) for axially clamping the outboard and inboard rim parts (80, 16) together with the O-ring (130).
