摘要： Apparatus for efficiently routing facsimiles to and from a plurality of facsimile devices (62, 64, 66). At least one BRI line (16) is coupled to several ISDN terminals (21-28). At least one multiplexer (31, 32) is coupled to the outputs of the terminals (21-28). A fax server (50) is coupled to the outputs of the multiplexers (31, 32), typically via fax process computers (41, 42). Coupled to the fax server (50) are a plurality of facsimile devices (62, 64, 66), each having a unique fax number. A given facsimile device (62, 64, 66) may send or receive more than one facsimile simultaneously by means of programming its fax number into more than one terminal (21-28) address. A terminal (21-28) may be coupled to more than one multiplexer (31, 32). Multiple BRI lines (16) may be used. The fax server (50) preferably contains an incoming generic module (51) that interacts with all incoming facsimiles, an incoming specific module (53) that interacts with facsimiles destined for selected ones of the facsimile devices (62, 64, 66), an outgoing generic module (52) that interacts with all outgoing facsimiles, and an outgoing specific module (54) that interacts with outgoing facsimiles that emanate from selected ones of the facsimile devices (62, 64, 66).

摘要： A method and system are provided for connecting and billing a first user on an Integrated Services Digital Network to a second user on a voice-band network for packet data and circuit switched data connections. A network access device is used to extract the first user's billing information and the called party's phone number from the data packets received in the case of data packet transmission and call set-up messages received on an ISDN interface in the case of circuit switched digital connections. A voice-band call to the second user is transmitted over the voice-band network. The billing identification sent by the first user is used to bill the first user for the voice-band call established from the network access device over the public switched telephone network to the second user.

摘要： An ISDN interface unit interconnects a data processing unit, an ISDN, and an analog telephone and includes a DMA request signal generation circuit for generating a DMA request signal from an 8 kHz clock signal from an ISDN line. In accordance with the request signal, PCM coded data input from the ISDN line is transferred, using DMA, to a memory of the data processing unit or vice versa. Alternatively, the ISDN interface unit includes a code conversion circuit. Data stored in the data processing unit are converted to nonlinear PCM coded data and transmitted to the ISDN line or vice versa. Further, the ISDN interface unit includes communication functions for the digital signal and for the voice band signal, a control channel signal sent from the ISDN line is interpreted, and one of the communication functions can be selected.

Any such dynamic change of the ISDN access path is invoked by the host computer, does not disrupt the host session and is substantially transparent to the user.

摘要： A synchronizer (100, 102, 104, 106) is disclosed operable in a variety of modes. In a Master/Slave mode the synchronizer receives synchronizing clock signals from a device to which it is a "slave" and generates therefrom synchronizing clock signals to a device to which it is a "master". In a Slave/Slave mode the synchronizer receives synchronizing clock signals from two devices to which it is a slave. In this mode the synchronizer can buffer misalignment between the clocks and report their phase difference for corrective action. In a Slave mode, the synchronizer only receives a synchronizing clock signal. A data-routing multiplexer (50, 108, 110) is employed in conjunction with the synchronizer which allows five devices to be connected to the synchronizer. Signals may be routed between any of the devices. Buffers (112, 120, 122) internal to the data-routing multiplexer perform the frame alignment function.
