    • A keyboard switch includes a plurality of spaced piezoelectric transducers secured to a common strike plate which is selectively impacted to actuate all of the transducers in response to switch actuation. The switch includes a snap action spring member carrying an impact member which impacts the strike plate as the spring member snaps to its actuated state when the switch is depressed . The spring member causes the impact member to maintain a compressive force against the strike plate, maintaining the transducers actuated while the key remains depressed and for a short interval after the key is released. An array of such switches on a keyboard is disposed over a plurality of parallel data lines which electrically contact one or more transducers at each switch in accordance with a switch indentification code. The parallel binary number appearing on the lines is received by processing circuitry which identifies each depressed key by its code. By maintaining compressive forces on the transducers, the system facilitates character processing and generation of certain specialized character functions.

    • A piezoelectric transducer array comprises a plurality of piezoelectric transducer means arranged in an array. A common electrode is provided among at least a plurality of the piezoelectric transducer means. A plurality of discrete signal electrodes is operatively associated with each transducer means. The number of signal electrodes for each transducer means is the same. The surface areas of the signal electrodes for each transducer means are adapted and arranged for generating a signal unique to each transducer means. Corresponding ones of the signal electrodes of each plurality of signal electrodes are connected together with a common conductor to form a single electrical terminal. The total number of resulting electrical terminals is the same as the number of signal electrodes for each transducer means.

    • An operating control unit for an electrical appliance with an operating field is mounted on an underside of the operating field. The operating control unit comprises a frame body, a flat component carrier being mounted to the frame body from behind and having piezo-active sensor elements, and a back support mounted to a back side of the frame body and enclosing the component carrier. The operating control unit has after pre-assembly two different assembly states. In a pre-mount state the back support is fixed to the frame body enclosing the component support, and some locking means of the frame body are formed as pre-mount locking means and are holding the back support against disassembly. In a final-assembly state the back support is pressed against the frame body with less distance between the two, and final-assembly locking means of the frame body are holding the back support in a closer position than the pre-mount locking means.
