A second locking surface is arranged according to the surface direction of a first locking surface in the temporary locking area.

    • A joint structure of a flat cable and joint terminals includes a flat cable, a plurality of joint terminals, a terminal holder and a bus bar holder. The flat cable has a plurality of conductors at its front and an insulating coating layer at its rear. The plurality of joint terminals have terminal plates at their first ends and the terminal plates are arranged in conformity with an arrangement pitch of the conductors. The terminal holder includes a first terminal resin layer and holding the joint terminals in such a manner that the first ends of the terminal plates are secured by the first terminal resin layer. The bus bar holder including a first bus bar resin layer and holds a plurality of bus bars whose first ends are arranged in conformity with the arrangement pitch of the conductors in such a manner that the first ends of the bus bars are secured by the first bus bar resin layer. The conductors are sandwiched by and welded to the terminal plates and the bus bars held by the bus bar holder. The insulating coating layer of said flat cable is sandwiched and secured by the first terminal resin layer and the first bus bar resin layer. Thus, the connection region of the flat cable and joint terminals are protected from pulling force.

    • A strain relief for ribbon cable (12) or discrete cables (82,84) in a connector (10). Strain relief insert (32) provides a recess (34) having a narrow entrance (36) into which is urged a fold (44) of cable (12) while the insert portions (42) are temporarily flexed or pivoted apart, or the fold is insertable from an end of the recess; a retention rod (46) is inserted into the fold above the cable from the side, such that a cable loop (50) extends around the rod at bend (44). The assembly is then urged into a shell pocket (24) adjacent the cable exit (20), with the pocket sidewalls (52) preventing the insert portions (42) from spreading apart at the narrow entrance after assembly. Strain from the cable (12,82,84) onto the connector tends to urge the cable loop (50) and rod (46) against the constriction of the narrow recess entrance (36) but they are trapped in the recess. A self-sustaining strain relief member (92) may be secured to a connector at its cable exit.

    • A cable strain relief system is provided for an electrical connector assembly which terminates a multi-conductor ribbon cable. A pair of interengageable elongated strain relief members clamp the ribbon cable therebetween. A flexible latch arm with a latch hook is provided on at least one of the strain relief members. A latch passage and a latch shoulder is provided on at least the other of the strain relief members for receiving the latch arm and latchingly engaging the latch hook of the one strain relief member. A rigid alignment element is provided on at least one of the strain relief members, and an alignment opening is provided on at least the other of the strain relief members for receiving the rigid alignment element. The latch passage is sized to receive the latch arm and latch hook freely thereinto with the pair of strain relief members offset relative to each other, and with the latch arm in an initial unflexed condition. The rigid alignment element is adapted to be inserted into the alignment opening after the latch arm has been inserted into the latch passage to draw the offset strain relief members laterally into alignment and to guide the members into fully engaged and latched condition with the latch arm flexed and the latch hook engaged with the latch shoulder.
