    • The invention concerns a machine and a method for automatically restoring cinematographic films comprising connections produced by adhesive tapes, by unwinding the film in front of means (28) detecting the connections, stopping the unwinding, holding the film on either side of the detected connection with clips (30), cutting the film in the middle of the connection, eliminating the bits of adhesive tape, cleaning the film and fixing a new connection, then proceeding with the unwinding, eliminating with means (34) the overlapping lateral portions of the new connection and visually controlling the new connections with means (36). The invention enables to automatically restore films comprising connections consisting of adhesive tape.

    • PURPOSE:To determine cutting positions by films differing in frame size, by discriminating frame sizes by detecting the connection point of each film and a notch provided to each frame. CONSTITUTION:A film carried by a film drive part 17 is shown by F, and a detection part S, installed at the halfway carriage point of the film F, consists of a notch detection part S1 which detects notches N made at the upper edge of the film, a notch detection part S3 which detects notches made at the lower edge of the film, and a splice detection part S2 which detects the splice part P of the film. Then, K is a cutting position located at a prescribed distance away from the notch detection parts S1 and S3 and a cutter is provided there. The said notches are detected to discriminate the size of the film by a size discriminating circuit for picture frames, and the interval between a reference stop notch a prescribed length behind a drive start position, and a final notch is detected and measured to exercise adequate automatic stop control.
