    • PURPOSE: To apply coating liquid on a web effectively with high flatness at a high speed even if the liquid is highly viscous, by supplying a liquid for wetting the coating surface of the web from the front of a metering member where the web travels and the coating liquid from the rear thereof.
      CONSTITUTION: A web 22 is moved on the smooth surface of a metering member 21 which has the curved smooth surface at the top end and is held fixed. The liquid having roughly the same compsn. as the compsn. of coating liquid is supplied continuously in the front of the member 21 to wet the coating surface of the web 22 and a prescribed amt. of the coating liquid is supplied from the rear thereof. Since the entire coating liquid forms a coating film in the above- mentioned arrangement, the excellent coated surface is obtained.

    • A coating method utilizing an extrusion type coating apparatus having a back edge surface and a doctor edge surface for continuous extrusion of a coating fluid from a slot formed between the back edge surface and the doctor edge surface for applying the coating fluid onto a surface of a flexible support running continuously over both the back edge surface and the doctor edge surface.
