    • An electronic imaging system that works in combination with an off-the-film (OTF) metering system intended for photographic film is described. The imaging system includes a combination of anti-reflection coatings, diffuse reflective coatings, and light absorbing coatings to control the reflections from the imaging system and thereby reduce reflections what would cause the OTF metering system to produce a false reading. The coatings are applied to the image sensor package and other surrounding components having high reflection properties. The geometrical arrangement and relative combinations of these reflectance-modifying treatments can be tailored to the particular geometry of the OTF metering system as well as the sensor and electronic component placement in the electronic imager system.

    • The apparatus of the present invention is provided with flashing means (11) for effecting preliminary flashing and main flashing, split photometry means (13) for metering reflected light from the area of the object field divided into a plurality of areas and putting out a photometric output for each of these areas, preliminary flashing control means, calculation means and main flashing control means. The preliminary flashing control means causes the flashing means to effect preliminary flashing prior to main flashing, and when in that case, at least one of the photometric outputs from the split photometry means reaches a predetermined value, causes the flashing means to repeat the preliminary flashing while decreasing the quantity of emitted light thereof, and when the photometric outputs become null before the predetermined value is reached, causes the flashing means to stop the preliminary flashing. The calculation means determines the divided areas which are not used for the flash limiting during the main flashing by the use of the photometric outputs and the quantity of emitted light during preliminary flashing at the last stage. The main flashing control means controls the main flashing of the flashing means on the basis of the output of the calculation means.

    • A device is used to control flashing of a camera (1) having an electronic flash (101) for performing main flashing for photography and preliminary flashing for obtaining information used to limit the quantity of light for the main flashing in accordance with a TTL scheme. The device includes a plurality of photoelectric converting means for receiving light beams corresponding to a plurality of photometric areas (PD11-PD51) constituting a field of view during the preliminary flashing and main flashing, converting the light beams into photocurrents, respectively, and outputting electric signals corresponding to the photocurrents, respectively, and a logarithmic transforming means for logarithmically transforming outputs from the plurality of photoelectric converting means. A peak holding means detects outputs from the logarithmic transforming means which correspond to maximum values of the outputs from the plurality of photoelectric converting means and holds the outputs from the logarithmic transforming means. A field reflection distribution is obtained on the basis of outputs from the peak holding means, and weighting coefficients of the photometric areas during the main flashing are determined on the basis of the field reflection distribution. The outputs from the plurality of photoelectric converting means are weighted in accordance with the weighting coefficients determined by an arithmetic means, the weighted outputs are added, and the quantity of light during the main flashing is limited on the basis of the obtained sum.
