    • The invention relates to a heating device for heating a reservoir of water, which heating device comprises:

      a watertight housing with an internal burning zone;
      an air inlet for supplying air to the burning zone;
      a fuel inlet for supplying fuel into the burning zone;
      a gas outlet for removing the combustion gasses out of the housing;
      a heat exchanger arranged above the burning zone comprising first channels through which the combustion gasses are transported and second channels, which are in heat exchanging contact with the first channels; and
      at least one water inlet and one water outlet, which are connected to the second channels.

    • An apparatus and method for altering the temperature of a surface of a body of water (112) is disclosed. The method includes positioning a conduit (104) underwater, dispensing substance from the conduit, and upwelling water. Another method includes positioning an upwelling system (1500), having a plurality of valves (106) controllably releasing an upwelling substance, underwater. The apparatus includes an underwater conduit (104) releasably containing an upwelling substance, and an input (108, 706) and a plurality of outputs (106). In another embodiment, the apparatus includes an underwater enclosure (504, 408, 600) containing frozen CO2, which releases gaseous CO2. In yet another embodiment, the apparatus includes an underwater electrolysis cell (708) coupled to a storage vessel, with a gas release valve mounted on the vessel, allowing release of electrolysis cell generated gases. In another embodiment, the apparatus includes an underwater manifold (1504) having a gas reservoir (1502), and comprising a plurality of valves coupled to an underwater conduit (1506, 1508, 1510).
