    • An anchoring adhesive combination includes a slug or package of chemical anchoring adhesive having a proximal end and a distal end and a rod which can be a penetrator having a pointed proximal end, and open distal end, and a threaded or corrugated outer surface. The pointed proximal end of the penetrator is connected to the distal end of the slug or package of chemical anchoring adhesive so that the pointed proximal end is at least partially surrounded by chemical anchoring adhesive. The open distal end of the penetrator receives a proximal end of an anchor pin to form a combination of anchor pin, penetrator and slug or package of anchoring adhesive in series. By placing the combination adjacent to a borehole and simply pounding a distal end of the anchor pin an integrated method is performed whereby a) anchoring adhesive is released and mixed in the borehole, b) the inner wall of the borehole is scrubbed and scored by the outer surface of the penetrator, and c) the anchor pin is both mechanically anchored in the borehole using the penetrator and chemically anchored using the mixed chemical anchoring adhesive.

    • The mortar composition for fixing an anchoring element in a drilled hole in a substrate consists of a water component and a mineral mortar paste held separately from the water component in a crushable container. The mineral mortar paste includes a mixture of mineral mortar and a liquid solvent chemically inert towards the mineral mortar and the mineral mortar paste is hardenable with the water component to form a hardened mortar compound. The water component consists of water and a thixotropic agent so that the water component acts like a paste when not subject to shear forces but flows when subject to shear forces such as those created by the anchoring element advancing in the drilled hole. The thixotropic agent is advantageously amorphous pyrogenic silicic acid.

    • A method of securing an anchor rod in a borehole at an underwater location without the use of expanding force includes a first step of partially filling the borehole with a flowable hardenable bonding mass. Next, a cartridge containing a hardenable bonding mass is placed in the borehole and a part of the flowable bonding mass is displaced from the borehole. Since the cartridge substantially fills the borehole, the flowable bonding mass flows between the borehole surface and the cartridge. Finally, an anchor rod is driven into the borehole breaking up or destroying the cartridge, so that the two bonding masses mix, harden and bond the anchor within the borehole.

    • A mining roof bolt structure includes an elongate bolt having a head and a threaded shank, a cylindrical sleeve made of a compressible and expandible material disposed about a substantial portion of the length of the shank, a cap nut having a diameter greater than the diameter of the sleeve when the sleeve is not compressed, for engaging the walls of a hole into which the roof bolt is inserted, with the cap nut being screwable onto the threaded shank to contact one end of the sleeve, and a holding plate disposed on the shank of the bolt between the sleeve and the bolt head so that the plane of the plate is generally perpendicular to the shank of the bolt. As the bolt is tightened on the cap nut in the hole, the sleeve is compressed longitudinally to thereby cause it to expand radially and contact the side walls of the hole. This secures the roof bolt structure in place to provide support for the roof or wall in which the hole is located.
