    • A valve assembly for use in a fuel pump comprises a body member (43) with a valve aperture (26,36), a valve member (22,32) movable within the body member and adapted to close the valve aperture (26,36), and a biasing means having a first part fixed with respect to one of the body member (43) and the valve member (22,32) and a second part fixed with respect to the other of the body member and the valve member (22,32). The biasing means is adapted to bias the valve member (22,32) to close the valve aperture (26,36). The biasing means comprises a helical spring (28,38) with a first diameter at the first part and a second diameter at the second part. The first diameter of the helical spring is different from the second diameter of the spring. The helical spring is at its first part retained by an interference fit against the member with respect to which it is fixed.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pump that can reliably feed liquid from a suction part to a discharge part even when gas is mixed in the liquid in a pump part.SOLUTION: The pump includes a pump unit 1 which sucks liquid L by increasing volumetric capacity and discharges the liquid L by decreasing the volumetric capacity, a suction unit 3 for sucking the liquid L to the pump unit 1, a discharge unit 5 for discharging the liquid L from the pump unit 1, a suction side non-return valve 4 for restraining any reverse flow of the liquid L from the pump unit 1 to the suction unit 3, and a discharge side non-return valve 6 for restraining any reverse flow of the liquid L from the discharge unit 5 to the pump unit 1. The pump has a communication unit 6b for communicating the pump unit 1 with the discharge unit 5, in a state that the pump part 1 sucks the liquid L.
