    • An exhaust infrared purifying device and method of a diesel engine are disclosed. The device includes a housing containing a cylinder body (33), filter meshes (34) and porous plates (35) are disposed at the both sides of the cylinder body (33) in a sequence of from inner to outer, and infrared spheres (36) are filled between both porous plates. The character of the device is that a buffer net (37) is disposed at the back of the porous plate (35) located at the inlet side, and at least a layer trap filter mesh (38) is provided in the cylinder body (33). The character of the method is that the inlet of the honeycomb heating purifier (3) is connected with the exhaust vent (101) and the outlet of the honeycomb heating purifier (3) is connected with the exhaust manifold (102). The deleterious pollution in the exhaust gas could be purified effectively.

    • An elongate catalytic muffler of the radial flow type for purifying the exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine, comprises a tubular casing having a gas inlet at one end and a gas outlet at the other end. Two co-axial substantially parallel frustra-conical grids of decreasing cross-section from the inlet end to the outlet end of the muffler define, with cup-like end walls, a catalyst chamber compression means is provided for axially displacing one of said end walls towards the other, so as to compress the catalyst mass in said chamber, and with said compression means being protected by tight separating means from the action of the exhaust gases treated in the muffler.

    • An internal combustion engine exhaust gas catalytic converter has coaxial inner and outer louvered tubes which define an annular catalyst bed. An outer shell coaxial with the inner and outer louvered tubes define a portion of a gas flow path downstream from the catalytic bed. The downstream flow portion has an annular outlet of smaller cross sectional area than the cross-sectional area of the inlet end of an upstream portion of the flow path. Heat expandable means maintain a constant density of catalyst beads within the catalytic bed. These heat expandable means preferably comprise a composition of ceramic fibers, vermiculite and a binder.
