    • A nail (10) and a method using the nail (10) for securing two materials together spaced by an interposed resilient material (22). The nail (10) has a shaft (32) having a first end and a second end. The nail has a head extending radially around the shaft (32) at the first end. The second end of the shaft (32) has a point (34). A sleeve (30) has generally a cylindrical shape and a pair of ends (38). The sleeve (30) has a cylindrical center portion (40) and a pair of frusto-conical tapered portions (42). The method comprises the steps of laying the first material against the second material spaced by the resilient material (22), driving the nail (10) through the first material, the resilient material (22) and into the second material with the point (34) of the shaft (32) piercing the resilient material (22) and into the second material with the point (34) of the shaft (32) piercing the resilient material (22) and the second material.

    • A shingle system comprising a fastening strip (14) and a plurality of shingles (12). The fastening strip (14) includes a top flange portion (36) and a fastener portion (44). A gasket (48) is located along a bottom surface of the fastening portion (44). The plurality of shingles (12) each include top and bottom edges and opposing side edges. The bottom edge includes an underturned flange (34) for engaging the top flange portion (36) of the fastening strip (14). Overturned or underturned flanges are provided on the side edges to connect adjacent shingles along the sides. In a further embodiment, the shingles comprise first and second shingle configurations where the first shingle configuration includes side edges that are tapered and either overturned or underturned, and where the second shingle configuration includes side edges having an opposite taper to the first shingle configuration as well as an opposite flange. In a further embodiment, the shingle system further comprises a roof cap including tailing and leading edges and opposing side edges. The leading edge of the roof cap includes an underturned flange for engaging the fastening strip.
