Briefly, the method comprises (a) passing liquid 1,2-dichloroethane through a bed of activated carbon until a bulk water phase ceases to exit the bed or until from about 60 to about 80 weight percent of the water present in a water-saturated bed has been removed and (b) removing substantially all of the remainder of the water present by use of vacuum or by passing hot air or hot nitrogen through the activated carbon.

This activated carbon is characterized in that the amount of basic functional groups in the activated carbon is 0.470 meq/m2 or greater. Preferably the amount of basic groups per specific surface area of activated carbon is 0.200 μeq/m2 or greater and the ratio of the amount of basic functional groups and the amount of acidic functional groups (basic functional groups/acidic functional groups) is 1.00 or greater. This method for producing activated carbon is characterized in comprising a step for imparting basic functional groups by bringing the activated carbon into contact with a basic substance. According to a preferred embodiment, the method comprises a step for heating the resulting activated carbon in an insert atmosphere.

摘要： An object of the present invention is to provide a loudspeaker device which has a high moisture resistance and can further widens an audio range of low-frequency range sounds. To achieve the above object, a closed box loudspeaker device of the present invention includes a loudspeaker unit which is attached to an opening in a box and activated carbon fiber which is provided in the box to adsorb gas. The activated carbon fiber has plural pores, which are exposed on a surface of the activated carbon fiber and have a diameter of 2.0 nm or less, and a volume of the pores having the diameter of 2.0 nm or less occupies 60% or more of a volume of the entire pores, so that the loudspeaker device which simultaneously achieves both an enhancement of the moisture resistance and the widening of the audio range of the low-frequency range sounds can be provided.

摘要： Disclosed is a process for treating waste water through the use of activated carbon. The carbon is generally added to waste water having a pH from about 4 to about 11, and is commonly added after the waste water has undergone primary treatment. Preferred modes of operation comprise using low concentrations of activated carbon having a high surface area and a zeta potential greater than about -10 millivolts. It is also preferred to use activated carbon in conjunction with an activated sludge process having an average sludge age greater than about ten days, especially where the waste water undergoes a pretreatment prior to the activated sludge process to reduce chemical oxygen demand, oil and solids content. Low concentrations of activated carbon based on feed waste water are generally used while maintaining substantially higher carbon concentrations in the process.
