    • A cargo ship for transporting various wheeled vehicles, such as cars, and in addition, containers and palletized general goods or equivalent cargo units simultaneously, said ship comprising: a hull consisting of a bottom structure (103), the sides (3), and a potential strength deck, said hull, forming a shell structure, mainly bears the forces directed at the ship; the power mechanism (9) of the ship; cargo handling openings (10A, 13, 14) in the hull for conveying cargo units into the cargo space and out therefrom; and cargo handling equipment with equivalent mechanism for moving cargo units within the cargo space.     • An adjustable pallet for transporting cargo, particularly automobiles, comprises an extension member adjustably attached to a rectangular base with the extension member and base each having a loading surface capable of supporting cargo thereupon and defining the total loading surface of the pallet. The extension member has a retracted position and an extended position relative to the base with the extension loading surface of the member being substantially co-planar with the base loading surface in the retracted position and the extended position. The extension member may be attached to the base by rails extending from one of the base and extension member and the other of the base and extension member having channels defined therein to slidably receive the rails, such that the extension member is slidably extendable from the base to form a selectively variable total loading surface. A plate fixedly attached to the extension member provides a substantially continuous total support surface from the base to the extension member in a range of positions of the extension member relative to the base. Alternatively, the extension member may be pivotally attached to the base such that the extension member may be retracted within the base or fully extended from the base. The adjustability of the pallet combined with its ability to support heavy objects makes it particularly well adapted for use in transporting vehicles.

    • A stackable, knockdown shipping stand for a lawn and garden tractor includes a flat, boxlike injection molded polystyrene pallet forming a base of the stand and having a four post framework removably mounted thereon with the posts being received in stake pockets formed in the upper surface of the pallet adjacent its corners. Storage recesses are provided in the upper surface of the pallet for receiving the framework when the latter is dismantled and in the lower surface of the pallet for receiving an exposed portion of a framework located in a lower pallet when knocked-down stands are being stacked one atop another. The upper surface of the pallet, in a preferred embodiment, includes wheel wells for receiving the wheels of a tractor being shipped and a gauge roller receptacle for receiving the gauge roller of a rotary mower deck being shipped.
