    • A rotary railway coupler (10) is provided having compound fillets (94, 96) of variable increasing radii of curvature inserted between the shank (84) and the butt end (54) of the coupler (10). The compound fillets (94, 96) reduce the stress concentration between the shank (84) and the butt end (54) of the coupler (10) by distributing the stress over a greater curved surface area in order to decrease the possibility of fatigue cracking and failure at the transition surface between the coupler shank (84) and butt end (54). The compound fillet (94, 96) may also be arranged to undercut the surfaces (78, 80, 86, 88) of the coupler shank (84) and butt end (54) in order to reduce metal build-up at this location.

    • A railcar coupler system that includes a yoke (220) comprising a front end (226), a rear end (224), a top strap (221), and a bottom strap (223). The top strap and the bottom strap are positioned between the front end and the rear end. The front end comprises an internal bearing surface (264) that is obliquely angled with respect to a central axis of the yoke that extends from the front end to the rear end of the yoke. The system also includes a connector (230) configured to rotate within the yoke such that an axis of rotation of the connector is substantially aligned with the central axis of the yoke when the connector is positioned within the yoke. The connector includes an external bearing surface (262) that is obliquely angied with respect to the axis of rotation of the connector and configured to correspond to the internal bearing surface of the yoke.
