    • There is provided a ladder clamp comprising an anchor part and a ladder retaining part. The anchor part is able to be arranged to co-operate with a fixing on a vehicle. The ladder retaining part includes a body and a securing means. The securing means is co-operable with the anchor part to releaseably clamp thereto. The body is arrangeable to restrict the movement of a ladder in order to secure a portion of the ladder to the fixing on the vehicle. The securing means comprises a locking element that is able to pivot with respect to the body. In an un-clamped orientation the locking element does not restrict relative movement between the anchor part and the ladder retaining part. In a clamped orientation the locking element clamps to the anchor part. Abutment between the locking element and body restricts movement of the ladder retaining part away from the anchor part.
      Because the ladder clamp does not employ a threaded connection, it is less prone to damage. Moreover, the ladder retaining part can be quickly arranged on the anchor part and does not rely on a time consuming process of winding a nut down a length of thread. Thus, different sized ladders can be quickly and conveniently swapped on and off the vehicle.

    • A ladder rack for work vehicles comprises a pair of side rails held in parallel, spaced relation by a pair of crossbars. Extending between the crossbars is at least one hook bar. The side rails, crossbars and hook bars comprise aluminum extrusions incorporating clamping ridges adapted to be engaged by clamps for rendering the structure rigid. No welding is required. A latch mechanism is affixed to a rearmost crossbar for releasably securing ladders on the rack. It comprises a crank on a rotatable shaft held by brackets affixed to the rear crossbar for rotation about an axis parallel to the crossbars. A rear hook is keyed to the shaft and aligned with a front hook affixed to the hook bar. The front and rear hooks can be made to engage spaced ladder rungs. An air spring connected between the rack frame and the rotatable shaft resists rotation of the rear hook member.

    • The rack comprises a sub-frame (5,6) having clamps (7) for releasable attachement to the roof of a vehicle. The sub-frame carries front and rear ladder support assemblies (8,9) each comprising transverse rollers (25,26 and 64,65) for engaging the stringers of a ladder spanning the two assemblies.
