    • Methods and apparatus for cutting a continuously moving material (101) are disclosed. An example apparatus includes a rotary press (102) having a first ram (114A) with a first pressing face (210) and a second ram (114B) with a second pressing face (212) opposing the first pressing face. The first ram is disposed between and rotatably coupled to a first rotating gear (110A) and a second rotating gear (110B) at an off-center distance from the rotational axis of the first and second rotating gears. The second ram disposed between and rotatably coupled to a third rotating gear and a fourth rotating gear at an off-center distance from the rotational axis of the third and fourth rotating gears. Rotation of the first, second, third, and fourth rotating gears causes the first and second pressing faces to move relative to each other and to reciprocate in opposing directions along substantially parallel paths. The first and second pressing faces include material cutting devices (206,208) that work cooperatively to shear, punch, or otherwise cut the continuously moving material.

    • A rotary punch includes an upper die plate, a lower die plate, and a support frame having a drive assembly that moves the upper die plate horizontally and vertically along a generally circular pathway. The lower die plate is connected to the support frame for movement in a linear horizontal direction only. The upper die plate is vertically slidably connected to the lower die plate by way of one or more vertical rods attached to the upper die plate that extend down through bushings provided in the lower die plate. In operation, the lower die plate horizontally follows the upper die plate as the latter is moved along its circular pathway. Concurrently, the upper plate moves towards and away from the lower plate. This maintains a substantially constant alignment between the die plates for carrying out a periodic machining operation on a moving web of material passing there between.

    • A continuous machining device includes: a film machining mechanism (3) that forms a hole (A) in a film (F); a holding mechanisms (4) being provided integrally with the film machining mechanism (3); a slider (2) that supports the film machining mechanism (3) and the holding mechanism (4) in a reciprocative manner relative to a feeding direction (P) of the film (F); and a return mechanism (5) that returns the film machining mechanism (3) and the holding mechanism (4) to their respective original positions defined on the opposite sides to the feeding direction (P) of the film (F). When the film (F) is held by the holding mechanism (4), the film machining mechanism (3) can be moved in synchronization with the film (F). Thus, after the hole (A) is formed in the film (F) by the film machining mechanism (3), the film machining mechanism (3) and the holding mechanism (4) can be returned to their respective original positions by the return mechanism (5) as soon as the film (F) is released from the holding mechanism (4).
