    • An apparatus includes a conveyor, a programmable motion device, and a controller. The conveyor preferably includes actuatable rollers, and the programmable motion device is preferably a robotic arm. The controller operates the conveyor, a stopping rail, and a positioning rail to move and position a box in a cutting position relative to the robotic arm. The controller determines three dimension of the box and translates a programmed cut pattern to those determined dimensions. Based on the determined dimensions, the controller then operates the robotic arm to perform the programmed cut pattern in the box with the cutting element. The cutting element preferably has square blade so that each of the four blades can be used to cut a side of the box without having to rotate the cutting element during operation.

    • In a cross-cutter, particularly for small paper formats, having two knife shafts driven in synchronized opposing manner, provided with two knife sets, which are so mutually staggered on the two knife shafts that in a specific rotation position association of the two knife shafts only one of the sets engages, whereas the other knives pass through the cutting gap without cooperating with a corresponding counterknife. It is therefore possible for one knife shaft set to implement several synchronous lengths of cut by merely changing the reciprocal rotation position association of the knife shafts with respect to one another.There is further provided a system for setting the backlash of the synchronizing gear to a minimum at several positions of a gear circumference by hydraulicly widening pockets in the gear body.

    • A perforating apparatus wherein two rolls define a nip for a running web of paper which is provided with rows of transverse perforations by tools at the periphery of one of the rolls. The rolls are driven in opposite directions by a timing shaft through the medium of a system of gears including an intermediate gear which indirectly drives the one roll and is directly or indirectly mounted on an eccentric. The eccentric is driven by a power train including a differential one output shaft of which carries the eccentric and another output shaft of which is normally held against rotation but can be turned by a worm to thereby change the phase of the one output shaft relative to the input shaft of the differential to thus compensate for eventual inaccuracies in the distribution of perforating tools at the periphery of the one roll. The input shaft of the differential is driven by a second system of gears, and the rolls are driven in such a way that they rotate through identical angles during each cycle of the apparatus.

    • A shaft for a cutter mechanism having a cutter blade secured to the periphery thereof is rotatably mounted in a frame mechanism. A driven pulley is nonrotatably secured to the end of the cutter shaft and is connected to a pair of drive pulleys by a flexible timing belt that transmits rotation to the cutter shaft and the cutter blade. Rotation of the cutter blade cuts notches in the side edges of a moving web. A plate member is pivotally connected to the frame mechanism and includes an aperture through which the cutter shaft extends. An adjusting cam is eccentrically mounted to the frame mechanism and is secured to the plate member. A pair of idler shafts are secured to the plate member and extend outwardly therefrom. A pair of idler pulleys are rotatably positioned on the idler shafts respectively and engage the timing belt to maintain a preselected tension thereon. Rotation of the adjusting cam through a preselected angle pivots the plate member and the idler pulleys through a corresponding angle on the frame mechanism relative to the cutter shaft. Pivotal movement of the idler pulleys turns the timing belt to rotate the driven pulley and cutter shaft in preselected direction through a preselected angle. Rotation of the cutter shaft rotates the cutter blade to provide a change in the phase relationship between the cutter blade and the moving web to be cut while the cutter mechanism is operating or static.
