    • The invention relates to a method of manufacturing a container (1) having a filling, a body (2) and two end walls, at least one of which is provided with a closing element (7) for a pouring opening, the container being filled and subsequently closed, and is characterized in that a container (1) is used in which the closing element is provided in an end wall (3) which has a substantially concave shape when the container (1) is being closed and in that after the container (1) is closed said end wall (3) is caused to change over to a substantially convex shape.
      Said end wall is a separate end wall or constitutes with the body a monolith. Preferably after the container is closed it is turned upside down.
      Further the invention relates to a method of manufacturing a container intended to contain a beverage and having
      two end walls (43,44) at least one of which is provided with a closing element (52) for a pouring opening, the closing element (52) being arranged in the end wall.

    • A method for forming a constant geometry and non-turbulent stream inducing pouring spout (10) in the rim portion (8) of a annular side-walled vessel (2). The method comprises the steps of:

      a) positioning the vessel within a clamping means (30) possessing a groove whose centerline forms a 90° angle with the annular side wall of the vessel when the clamping means is in place;
      b) placing inside the vessel a center plug means (32) possessing a radially extending groove (42) whose centerline forms a 90° angle with the annular side wall (6) when the center plug means is in place;
      c) aligning the centerlines of the grooves of the clamping means and the center plug means to form a straight line travel path;
      d) placing a pour spout forming means in the center plug portion's groove and causing the forming means (31) to travel along the travel path and into contact with the rim portion of the vessel; and,
      e) further causing the forming means to travel along the travel path to yieldably deform the rim portion of the annular wall into the desired shape pouring spout.
      The actual deformation of the rim (8) takes place in three stages. The first stage and third stages involve deforming the rim portion by the forming means in an outward and upward direction and an outward and downward direction, respectively, while the second stage involves deforming the rim portion in only an outward direction.

    • A machine for inserting pouring spouts 270 in container tops or caps 230 feeds the tops to an indexing work table 80 through an inlet apparatus which coordinates the position of the tops with the position of the indexing table. Mounting apparatus 200 is provided to mount the tops 230 on the indexing work table, which table moves the tops in a coordinated sequence to work positions where the pouring spouts are inserted in the tops. The indexing work table 80 then moves the tops to an outlet position where ejecting apparatus 202 removes the tops with the inserted spouts from the indexing work table, the pouring spouts on the tops are placed in the desired position and the tops are properly oriented as the tops leave the spout inserting machine. A pneumatic assembly (Figure 2) provides for the delivery of the container tops to the Indexing table 80 and for transfer of the container tops with the inserted spouts away from the indexing table. The indexing table 80 is coordinated with the mounting apparatus 200, ejecting apparatus 202 and the inserting apparatus by a power transmission system (Figure 4) powered by an indexing drive.
