    • A pressure swirl atomizer includes a nozzle having an exit orifice and a plurality of tangential swirl channels and a pintle that is movable within a pintle bearing between a closed position that closes the exit orifice and an open position that opens the exit orifice. The atomizer also has a pole piece having a channel, and the pole piece and the pintle are separated by an air gap when the pintle is in the closed position. A space between the pintle and the pintle bearing, the air gap, and the channel together form at least a part of a return path. Fluid from the tangential swirl channels drains through the return path when the pintle is in the closed position. To open the atomizer, a solenoid generates a magnetic force when energized, attracting the pintle toward the pole piece into the open position. A check valve disposed in the return path generates a fluid back pressure when the solenoid is de-energized to push the pintle toward the closed position. The fluid back pressure helps prevent the pintle from getting stuck in the open position.

    • A three-piece nozzle is disclosed, for fitment to a hand actuated liquid pump having a barrel portion (20) with a bore (22) therethrough for passage of liquid. The nozzle features an integrally formed nozzle cap (18) which fits around the end portion of the barrel. Enclosed within the nozzle cap is an integrally formed nozzle seal (38) which forms a peripheral liquid-tight seal around the barrel between the nozzle cap and the barrel. Also provided is an integrally formed check valve (46) which is movably positioned at the mouth of the bore and which is biased towards the mouth of the bore to form a liquid-tight bore seal. The bias is overcome, to open the liquid-tight bore seal, upon actuation of the pump which provides liquid pressure in the bore to act against the check valve.

    • A multi-purpose nozzle assembly for a liquid dispenser includes a rotatable nozzle cap (17) having an internal sleeve (21) in engagement with the end of a fixed plug (16) located within an outlet member (14) of the dispenser containing a discharge conduit (15). An end wall (23) of the cap (17) has a smooth inner surface (26) confronting the end wall (25) of the plug.. The plug (16) and sleeve (21) have two discrete passageways (27 and 32) formed between the discharge conduit (15) and the discharge orifice (24) located in the cap end wall (23). The passageways (27 and 32) are capable of being aligned so as to be open or mis-aligned so as to be closed in selected rotative positions of the cap in alternating off, stream and spray positions.

    • A manually-operated pump dispenser for dispensing liquids from a container. Many of the prior art device have numerous parts, are complicated to manufacture, tend to leak, and are not easily produced by an efficient injection molding process. The present invention overcomes the deficiencies of the prior art by providing a pump dispenser that has a limited number of parts, is sample to construct and operate, resists leakage and is easily produced by injection molding of its parts. A manually-operated pump dispenser (10) comprises a housing (20), a closure (22) for coupling the housing to a container (28), a pump member (14) having a trigger (84) rigidly extending therefrom and being slidably received in the housing, a coiled spring (16) for biasing the pump member away from the housing, and an adjustable nozzle (12) coupled to the end of the pump member. The pump member and the housing include cooperating slots (86, 89, 90) and flanges (120, 121) and cooperating square portions (71, 115) for resisting the tendency of the pump member to distort about an axis transverse to the housing upon engagement of the trigger (84), thereby maintaining the pump member and the housing in longitudinal alignment. The dispenser includes an inboard valve member (18) received in the housing and an outboard valve (26) formed by the adjustable nozzle (12) and the pump member (14). The adjustable nozzle (12), pump member (14), inboard valve member (18), housing (20) and closure (22) are each integrally molded as one-piece. The closure (22) is snap-fitted direcly onto the housing (20).
