    • An extruded node is disclosed comprising a longitudinally extending substantially hollow core (10) and at least one longitudinally extending hollow flange (20) extending outwardly of and integral with a longitudinally extending side portion (22) of the core. This invention also provides a joined structure wherein at least one longitudinally extending lineal member (60, 70, 80) having a hollow peripheral portion defined by walls having inside surfaces is adapted to mate with outside surfaces of a mating hollow flange of the extruded node. In this joined structure the peripheral portion of the lineal member is inserted over the hollow flange of the node, to an extent that the outer peripheral surface of the lineal member surrounds the integral wall of the node, and the outside surfaces of the side walls of the hollow flange and the inside surfaces of the lineal member mate along substantially the entire length and around substantially the entire perimeter of the flange.

    • For joining hollow polyhedral, usually rectangular, tubes (8), a connector (2) comprises a cube (4) having, projecting from the faces thereof, from 1 to 6 spigots (6) each of which extends diagonally across the face and having a length so as to fit diagonally between opposite corners of a hollow rectangular tube (8) so as to be a press-fit therein; the ends of the spigots may be variously shaped but preferably are enlarged to fit against both adjacent sides of the tube and are curvedly truncated, (Figs 4 and 5). The terminal portion of each spigot (y, Fig 7) may be tapered.
      The connectors may be made entirely of a hard zinc or aluminium casting for joining commercial welded metal tubing without pulling pressure on the weld, and are easy and inexpensive to manufacture. They can be used to con­struct showcases; a channel can be formed in the tubes (8), not impinging on the spigot therein, to support a shelf (Figs. 8 to 9).
