    • The present invention relates to a motorcycling boot 10, in particular a motocross boot. The boot 10 comprises a sole 40 and an upper 14 in turn comprising a bottom portion 15, suitable for surrounding the user's foot, and a leg-piece 16 suitable for surrounding the user's leg. A first protection means 20 is connected to said leg-piece 16 in the region of the shin, while a second protection means 30 is connected to said leg-piece 16 in the region of the calf.     • This invention in the broadest sense comprises a ski boot, freely pivoting at the ankle, in combination with an adjustable suspension shock absorber to control and optimize compression and rebound damping characteristics. In the preferred embodiment, the ski boot would comprise a rigid, pivoting exoskeleton (providing the lateral stiffness and torsional control), a sub-boot (providing padding, thermal insulation, and water-proofing), and a fully adjustable pneumatic/hydraulic/spring suspension system (providing adjustable fore-aft stiffness, shock absorption, and rebound damping). The object of the invention is to optimize ski boot performance by separating the necessary boot components, allowing them to be designed to optimize different performance characteristics.

    • An article of footwear to improve walking ease and comfort, increase running speed, and improve jumping ability by augmenting the natural musculature and biomechanical characteristics of the lower leg, ankle, and foot portion of the human body. Walking, running, and jumping involves a complex series of joint and muscle movements. One of the critical components of this motion is the exertion of muscle force and/or tendon stress at the lower leg, ankle, and foot when releasing weight from the back foot during walking or running (the push off), or from one or both feet when jumping. The present invention augments this natural process by allowing storage of energy within energy storage and release means (35) as the angle θ produced by the intersection of the lower leg axis and foot axis is decreased (the forward portion of the foot moves closer to the shin) when a person moves forward during walking or running, or when a person jumps. The energy stored within the energy storage and release means (35) is released as the person continues with forward and/or upward motion, augmenting the natural musculature, allowing longer and/or easier steps, and/or higher jumps. The energy storage and release means (35) of the present invention connect, or are secured by mounting means that connect, portions of the footwear above the level of the ankle joint and portions of the footwear below the level of the ankle joint, thus taking advantage of the change in θ that occurs during walking, running, or jumping. Because the present invention utilizes the natural motion, musculature, and biomechanics of normal walking, running, or jumping, it provides a more stable, comfortable, and efficient method to achieve the desired goal of walking more easily, running faster, or jumping higher.

    • The ski boot comprises a shell upon a sole. The shell comprises a back heel portion, a shell tip and a front portion rearwardly extending from the shell tip to approximately an instep region. The front portion also has a longitudinal slot to divide part of the front portion into two shell flaps. A rear flap is pivotably mounted to the heel portion and a cuff is pivotably mounted to the shell portion, both the rear flap and cuff being capable of forward and backward movement. Structure is provided for closing the cuff in separable connection with the rear flap such that the cuff and rear flap when closed define at least part of a tubular shaft for a skiers leg. An outer wall above and at the sides of the front portion of the shell forms at least one chamber substantially sealed toward the outer surface of the outer wall and defined by the front portion at the bottom. The length of the outer wall is changeable depending on the pivotal movement of the cuff. The two shell flaps on the front portion of the shell can be drawn towards each other in a transverse direction by an adjusting mechanism.
