摘要： A pile weatherstrip has an elongate base strip (10) carrying a pile of thermoplastic fibres (11). A zone (15) is formed adjacent the base of fibres fused together and compressed to reduce their width. This provides a comparatively smooth and narrow zone that does not snag on the flanges of a carrier as the pile weatherstrip is inserted into the carrier. The zone (15) can be produced by passing the weatherstrip through a nip formed by heated rollers (18). In an alternative embodiment, the fibres are fused together for their whole height. This has the additional advantage of providing an air-impervious barrier.

The sealing strip is for sealing the gaps between the closed leaf and the fixed frame to prevent the passage of draughts. The sealing strip has a root a base (16) and a flipper seal (17) and is mounted on the fixed frame (11) with the flipper seal (17) engaging the moveable leaf (12). The majority of the strip is extruded from a rigid PVC plastics material. However, the portion of the flipper adjacent the base, the nose of the flipper and a projection on the root are all made from a plastics material which is more resilient than the PVC plastics material. This flexible hinge gives the flipper seal excellent compression set performance.
