The software allows a facility to customize a drug library with both hard and soft drug limits and other parameters for use with an infuser 12 having a plug and play module removably inserted into a slot within a housing, or for use with the infuser 12 having a connectivity engine enclosed within the housing. The system supports data transfer to one or more infusers 12 connected to one or more computers 10. The connection between the computer 10 and the pump can be hard-wired or wireless.

A dual function button cancels the current operation and, after a delay, clears entered parameters. An area sensitive scroll bar cycles through information at various speeds. Screen brightness is adjusted based on an ambient light detector. A screen saver mode is activated based on several operating conditions. The screen is incorporated in a removable user interface.

The port docking assembly also has a movable plug configured to fluidly seal the second container at a first docking position and provide access to the inside of the second container at a second activated position. Thus, when the first and second containers are at the second activated position, fluid communication is provided between the first and second containers.
