A pre-loaded ejection spring (26) is provided in the parachute pack (2) between the primary parachute (8) and the auxiliary parachute (18). The ejection spring (26) ejects the auxiliary parachute from the pack (2) and then falls away from the auxiliary parachute. The ejection spring (26) thus projects the auxiliary parachute (18) sufficiently far from the pack (2) to prevent entanglement with a mis-deployed main parachute (50) and to deploy the primary parachute (8), but does not add to the weight of the auxiliary parachute (18).

[Class 106 (v)] In apparatus for delivering measured volumes of fluent solid or semi-solid substances, such as meat or other food compositions, and of the kind comprising a reciprocating piston fitted with a measuring chamber and arranged beneath a hopper, the measuring chamber is fitted with an inclined blade on its trailing edge and with an air vent. The piston 9 is reciprocated horizontally beneath a hopper 5 having a charging aperture 6 under which the measuring chamber 15 moves in one position of the piston. The chamber 15 can be varied in volume by replaceable packing 19 behind a wedge-shaped member 18 which makes the chamber narrower towards the bottom. The knife 16, having a transversely inclined edge 16a, severs any material projecting from the hopper as the piston moves to its discharge position. The wall 9a is fitted with an air vent 21.

摘要： Halogenated anthraquinone derivatives, particularly those of oxy- and acidylamino-anthraquinones are obtained by halogenation of the parent materials in solution or suspension in a hot aromatic liquid and in presence of a mild alkali such as sodium carbonate, borax, or magnesium oxide; in the case of the hydroxy derivations the addition of alkali is not absolutely necessary. As examples are described the preparation of 4-chlor- and 4-brom-1-hydroxy-anthraquinone, 2 :4 - dichlor-1-hydroxy-anthraquinone, 1 - chlor - 2 - hydroxy-anthraquinone, monochlor-alizarin bordeaux, monochlor-alizarin, mono- and di-chloranthrarufin, and monochlor-1-benzoylaminoanthraquinone, nitrobenzene being used as diluent, sodium carbonate as alkali, and iodine as a catalyst; in place of the nitrobenzene, trichlorobenzene may be employed.

Cooking-ranges ; closed solid-fuel stoves ; air supply; doors; ash-pans.-A kitchen range or other closed stove is provided with a projecting casing A, the front of the upper half of which is inclined to the vertical and is fitted with a charging- door B and a trivet-door C. The door C has draught regulators and inside it a perforated plate through which the air passes. The casing forms in front of the fire a pocket F for the ashes, which collect on a plate G covering the front of the ashpan E and closing the lower end of the pocket F. When the ash-pan is drawn out, air can flow to the underside of the fire-grate D . Air may also be allowed to pass through the regulator I and passages at the sides of the grate to air inlets I above the fuei or to passages in and leading from a metal or fire-clay fire-back J. so as to supply air to the combustion chamber L. A damper H enables the gases to be conducted direct to the chimney or to the oven flues. A boiler M may be fitted, and also a second boiler connected with it or independent thereof. One of the compartments, C, has nozzles L, another, A, receives the air supply at one end, and another, B, receives the gas supply at the opposite end. A regulating-valve M, Fig. 2, controls the admission of air to the compartment A and a regulatable gas injector H directs a regulated flow of gas into the adjoining compartment. As shown, both regulators are operated by handwheels at the front of the stove. The nozzles L may be detachable with a renewable strip of gauze beneath. The air valve is a slide valve M threaded on a screw O. The regulatable injector comprises a needle valve I operated through bevel-gearing J.

Differential speed indicators.-Relates to apparatus of the kind described in Specification 4500/98, and consists in a modification of the indicating-arrangement and in the particular construction of the recording-means. A transparent dial 21 driven by the clock is substituted for the seconds hand described in the abovementioned specification; and two vehicleactuated pointers 22, 23 are employed, one driven at twice the rate of the other, so that comparison is readily made when the vehicle is travelling at either of two important speeds, say 10 and 20 miles per hour. Time-distance recorders.-The recording-pencil 1 is carried by a rod 4 reciprocated horizontally by vehicle-rotated heart-cams 3 and marking the clock-driven strip, which passes over the drum 7. Time is printed upon the strip by a clock-rotated wheel 13 composed of elastic spokes, which are provided with type and are depressed at intervals by a spring- hammer 16, periodically released by a snail-cam. The record-strip drums 7, 8, 9 are mounted on a removable base - plate 10. According to the Provisional Specification, a second printing- wheel driven by the vehicle may be provided for marking distances upon the strip, an indicating-wheel rotated once a day may be added to show " night " and "day," and the means for rotating the time-wheel and for depressing the type may be varied.
