Gaseous-fuel fittings.-Relates to a mixing and distributing chamber which is fitted to a steamgenerator furnace and in which the gaseous fuel is mixed with air previous to it entering the combustion chamber. The gas flows from the flue b, Fig. 1, into a brickwork chamber a, which is surrounded by an iron casing e. It then flows into a passage c leading into the mixing- chamber d, which is constructed as set forth an Specification No. 2228, A.D. 1903. Air spaces f, f are left between the iron casing, and the brick walls of the chamber and passages a, c, Figs. 1 and 2. In the case of flue boilers, air enters through sliding ventilator plates in the side of the iron casing, passes up around the hot sides of the chamber a, and enters the chamber d by means of openings h. A separate air supply enters at g and passes by means of the flue g to openings in the firebridge. In the case of furnaces for water-tube boilers, the air enters the combustion chamber d, as shown in Fig. 8, by the fine f In order that the gas may mix thoroughly with the air, a central partition i is placed in the middle of the flue casing c. A doorway k, equal in width to the flue b, is fitted with a clay tile or damper l, which may be employed to regulate the supply of gas to the chamber a. A sight and cleaning door l is provided in the front casing plate above the doorway k.

    • 28,877. Hislop, G. R. Dec. 31. Gas - producers.- The gratings B, upon which the fuel rests and through which the steam and air are blown, are inclined or curved and situated upon bearing-brackets against the side walls. Between the gratings, is provided the hearth or plate D, which may be hung on bearings so as to assume a horizontal or vertical position, and thus break up fuel &c. It may be perforated, or, as is preferred, its sides are toothed or serrated. The usual water and ash pans E, or a water base of any form, may be fitted. Girders F support the gratings, and serve as seals when blowers are employed. The producers may be arranged in batteries To increase the capacity of the producers, the division between a pair of producers is removed, the central gratings which then come together assuming a beehive shape. The producers are built with arched roofs which contain fuel hoppers, and openings, covered by plugs, are provided for insertion of stirring-bars. Ducts M for the entry of air or steam above the fuel, and passages N for the out-flow of gases, may be also built in the setting. Self-sealing doors are supplied when automatic feeding-apparatus is employed. In lieu of the swivelling hearth, a fixed plate in the form of a perforated arch may be employed, or it may be a solid hearth plate.
