    • An echoscope for examination of objects with the aid of ultrasonic pulses, comprising at least one electroacoustic element for transmitting and receiving ultrasonic pulses during a transmission-reception period divided into n consecutive time intervals. The ultrasonic pulses are sent to the objects to be examined and are reflected therefrom. The echo signals supplied by the receiving element are amplified by an amplifier with time-dependent gain control. The gain control is brought about by a control voltage generator which supplies a control voltage to said amplifier for determining its signal gain as a function of time. Adjusting means for the control voltage generator are provided to make it possible to change the magnitude of the control voltage in the time intervals as a function of time. The apparatus also comprises a device for visually displaying the echo signals received during each transmission-reception period.

Provided is a method for determining the replicative history of a lymphocyte, preferably a B cell, the method comprising detecting a signal joint nucleotide sequence on an extrachromosomal circular excision product in the lymphocyte, wherein the excision product is deleted from a chromosome to give a chromosomal-coding joint nucleotide sequence, wherein the coding joint is retained in the chromosome, and detecting the coding joint nucleotide sequence in the lymphocyte. Also provided are primers, probes and a control cell for use in a method of the invention. A method provided herein is among others advantageously used to assess recovery of the precursor B-cell compartment, for example, in a patient following bone marrow transplantation

    • A method and apparatus are described for estimating the cardiac output of the heart of a patient. An indicator is injected as an impulse in the blood stream of the patient, whereafter a first signal corresponding with the concentration variation of the indicator is measured at a position at a distance downstream of the injection position. Said first signal is supplied to a processor unit for determining the cardiac output from said first signal and the injected amount of indicator. Further, a second signal at least substantially proportional to the cardiac output is measured in the same blood stream adjacent the measurement position for the first signal. Both said signals are stored in a memory. Thereafter, said second signal is normalized by a predetermined value of said second signal and the first signal is corrected by means of the normalized second signal. The processor unit now determines the cardiac output from the corrected first signal.
