    • According to one embodiment, an apparatus includes an array substrate including gate lines and auxiliary capacitance lines extending along a row, signal lines extending along a column, a semiconductor that intersects the gate line via an insulating layer and confronts the auxiliary capacitance line, a contact electrode for electrically connecting the semiconductor to the pixel electrode, a counter substrate, and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the substrates. In the pixels disposed side by side in a direction where the gate line extends, the positions of center of gravity of openings surrounded by the gate lines, the signal lines, the auxiliary capacitance line, and ends of the contact electrode are the same in a direction where the signal line extends.

    • A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel (LCD panel), an area light source device which illuminates the LCD panel, a driving unit which drives the LCD panel and the area light source device, and a control unit which controls the driving unit. The LCD panel includes display pixels. The area light source device includes plural kinds of light sources which are successively turned on in one frame period. The control unit includes means for controlling the driving unit in a manner to execute video signal write and reset signal write after the video signal write, in a period in which one of the plural kinds of light sources is turned on in the one frame period. The video signal write and the reset signal write are executed with the same polarity, and a polarity of potential of the display pixels is reversed between frame periods.

    • A liquid crystal display device comprises a display panel including a pair of electrode substrates and a liquid crystal layer that is held between the electrode substrates and contains a liquid crystal material whose molecules are transferred in advance from a splay alignment to a bend alignment, and a display panel control circuit that controls transmittance of the display panel by a liquid crystal driving voltage. In particular, the display panel has a voltage-transmittance characteristic that a minimum value and maximum value of the transmittance are obtained in a state where the liquid crystal driving voltage exceeds a transfer threshold level at which an energy of the splay alignment is balanced with an energy of the bend alignment, and the display panel control circuit is configured to vary the liquid crystal driving voltage in a range corresponding to the minimum and maximum values of transmittance.
