    • In a storage management system for managing a storage device for storing data, management information for managing the storage device, area assignment information for managing an area assignment state of the storage device, and history information for managing a history on area assuring and release are held. Further, an assignment request for temporarily using an area is received in association with designation of an area size and a using period. It is determined whether or not the requested area can be assigned by referring to information calculated from the held history information. An area with a designated size at a designated period is assigned to a request source if the area can be assigned as a result of the determination. In the determination, transition of a used amount of a storage is obtained from the history information, and it is determined based on the transition of the used amount of the storage whether or not the designated area can be assigned at the designated period.

    • To store data in an insertion process, a process 1 that inserts data into a new block and a process 2 that inserts, within the block reserved, data into areas that became free when data was deleted are prepared. A switching event to switch from the process 1 to the process 2 is designated in advance. The occurrence of the designated event is checked while executing the process 1 in an insertion process, and if the designated event occurs, the insertion process executes the process 2. If during the execution of the process 2, areas that can be reused become depleted, the execution of the insertion process reverts back to the process 1. As a result, free areas resulting from deletions can be reused according to the switching event designated.

    • A method of increasing a processing performance by setting a suitable upper limit of a resources count for each processing request according to an arrangement of hardware such as a storage device or to contents of the processing request. A processing request acceptor accepts the processing request as a data query. An auxiliary storage device forms a storage area where a database is stored. A data operation executor analyzes the accepted processing request and executed the data operations on the basis of the analyzed result. A resource manager manages the respective data operations allocated to generated processes or threads.
