    • An interactive recording/reproducing medium including: image data; image reproduction control data which defines an operation instruction received from operation input apparatus and a reproduction procedure for the image data in correlation with each other, the operation input apparatus performing a reproducing operation for the image data in an interactive manner; image related data related to the contents of the image data; and relation defining information which defines the relation between the image related data and the image data. More particularly, an interactive recording/reproducing system which is interactively responsive to operations made by a user, which defines information such as text data (e.g., ASCII text) in association with an image and reproduces the text data simultaneously with reproduction of the image. An optical disk medium comprises a Video-CD recording area for recording image data (e.g. dynamic images, static images, voice) which conform to a basic Video-CD standard, a PC data recording area for recording text data associated with the image data, and a reproduction application recording area for recording a program to effect reproduction using a PC (personal computer). A Video-CD reproducing system and a PC can be alternatively used to perform reproduction using a content of the optical disk medium.

    • Digitally-compressed audio and image data of a plurality of programs (logical channels) are distributed and superimposed for every horizontal synchronizing signal period together with identification information of each of the programs in place of a luminance signal of an analog video signal of each of physical channels. Each of the physical channels is superimposed in its frequency and distributed from a signal transmission facility of a broadcasting station. At the receiving side, a desired physical analog channel is tuned and the compressed digital audio and image data superimposed on the tuned video signal are selected and taken as desired logical channel data in reference to program identification information, and the compressed digital audio and image data are decoded to obtain their original audio and moving images. With such an arrangement as above, in an existing CATV system, a mere insertion of an encoder unit into a transmission side and a decoder unit into a receiving side, without improving a characteristic of an analog video signal distribution system such as a cable or the like, respectively, enables a greater number of programs to be supplied correspondingly by the amount of digital compression.

    • In a radio receiving apparatus, an analog received signal is converted into a digital received signal. An unwanted wave in an adjacent channel band is rejected, that is adjacent to a passband for the digital received signal. The digital received signal with no unwanted wave is converted into a first demodulated signal. The first demodulated signal is converted into a second demodulated signal in analog form. A noise component is extracted from the first demodulated signal. The second demodulated signal is suppressed under squelch control when a squelch voltage that is a voltage of the noise component after rectification and smoothing becomes equal to or higher than a predetermined threshold level.
