    • In accordance with a method of producing a ferrule with an optical fiber, a reinforcing pipe is adhered to a single-core fiber to form an adhesive portion that protrudes and tapers from a pipe end surface portion of the reinforcing pipe toward a front end of the single-core fiber. The single-core fiber includes an optical fiber and a coating. The coating is stripped from the front end of the single-core fiber to provide an exposed optical fiber portion and a coated optical fiber portion. The coated optical fiber portion has a coating end surface portion. The single-core-fiber is inserted in a ferrule provided with a first tapered hole and a second tapered hole until the coating end surface portion abuts against the first tapered hole and until the pipe end surface portion abuts against the second tapered hole. Thereafter, the single-core fiber is secured in the ferrule.

    • In a state in which a front end of a single-core fiber is passed through an end surface portion of a reinforcing pipe, an inner surface of the reinforcing pipe and an outer peripheral surface of the single-core fiber are glued together by means of adhesive. By using the same adhesive, an adhesive portion is formed by curing it so as to protrude and taper from the end surface portion of the reinforcing pipe toward the front end of the single-core fiber. Thereafter, a coated optical fiber formed with the adhesive portion is inserted in a ferrule until an end surface portion of the coating of the single-core fiber abuts against the first tapered hole and until the end surface portion of the reinforcing pipe abuts against the second tapered hole. Then, the optical fiber is glued in the ferrule by means of adhesive.

    • When connecting an optical connector to an optical connector adaptor, there is a demand to position the optical connector with high precision with maintaining connection workability. In the optical connector of this invention has a key for positioning the optical connector around an axis of the optical connector adaptor by inserting the key into a key groove of the optical connector adaptor, and a spring structure which can elastically deform in the groove width direction of the key groove. Therefore, unsteadiness of the key can be prevented by pressingly inserting the key into the key groove, increasing the precision of the positioning. Furthermore, since a difference in the groove width of the key groove can be absorbed by the range of elastic deformation of the key, the optical connector is universally applicable for differences in groove widths depend on the type of the optical connector adaptor.
