    • A color liquid crystal display device comprising light shielding layers and color filters on the inner surface of a cell, wherein similar light shielding layers and color filters are disposed also in a peripheral region outside of a display region which is equipped with groups of striped row and column electrodes opposed mutually to form pixels for display. The respective patterns of the light shielding layers and the color filters are the same in both the display region and the peripheral region. A liquid crystal layer formed in the display device has a twist angle of 160.degree. to 300.degree., and a retardation compensator composed of a film is superposed on such layer so as to compensate the elliptical polarization. And a non-selective voltage is applied continuously to the scanning electrodes in the peripheral region so as to maintain the peripheral pixels in a light-shielded state, thereby rendering the display easier to be seen. Furthermore, due to overlaps of the color filters and the light shielding layers in both the display region and the peripheral region, the gap between the substrates is retained substantially uniform to minimize the nonuniformity of the backgroud color.

    • A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display device, a vertical scanner, a horizontal scanner, a video driver, a timing generator, and termination means. The liquid crystal panel is provided with pixels arranged in a matrix. The vertical scanner operates in accordance with a first start-pulse signal, and sequentially selects each row of the pixels. The horizontal scanner operates in accordance with a second start-pulse signal, and sequentially writes a video signal to the selected row of the pixels by distributing the video signal to each column of the pixels. The video driver, which is activated in accordance with supply of power, supplies the video signal to the liquid crystal panel. The timing generator, which is activated in accordance with the supply of power, supplies the first start-pulse signal and the second start-pulse signal to the vertical scanner and the horizontal scanner, respectively. The termination circuit terminates at least either of the first start-pulse signal and the second start-pulse signal which are repeatedly inputted to the vertical scanner and the horizontal scanner until the video signal outputted from the video driver becomes stable when power is supplied.

    • The invention provide a display apparatus of a plural pixel simultaneous driving system wherein sample and hold noise included in a video signal is removed before the video signal is supplied to a display panel. A video signal processing circuit operates in response to a timing signal supplied from an external timing signal source, and delays an input video signal supplied thereto from an external video signal source to produce an output video signal. The video signal processing circuit includes a first sample and hold circuit, a second sample and hold circuit and a differential circuit. The first sample and hold circuit repetitively samples and holds the input video signal in response to the timing signal. The second sample and hold circuit repetitively samples and holds a predetermined reference signal in response to the same timing signal. The differential circuit differentially processes the input video signal after it has been sampled and held and the reference signal after it has been sampled and held to produce an output video signal from which sample and hold noise synchronized with the timing signal has been removed.

The liquid crystal display device includes a driving-side substrate 1 on which a drive transistor 5, pixel electrode 6 and orientation film are formed. The liquid crystal display device further includes an opposed-side substrate 2 on which an opposed electrode and orientation film are formed. The liquid crystal display device still further includes liquid crystal 4 filled between the pixel electrode 6 of the driving-side substrate 1 and opposed electrode of the opposed-side substrate 2. The liquid crystal display device still further includes a reflective inorganic polarizer 3 formed between the drive transistor 5 and pixel electrode 6 of the driving-side substrate 1. The embodiment of the present invention is also a projection-type display device using the liquid crystal display device.
