    • A mass spectrometer capable of analyzing a wide mass range with high sensitivity and high mass accuracy. A mass spectrometer has an ionization source generating ions; an ion transfer optics transferring the ions; a first linear trap accumulating the ions and ejecting the ions in the specific mass range; a second linear trap having an end electrode disposed at the exit end ejecting the ions to change a DC potential gradient relative to a DC potential of the end electrode and trapping the ions ejected from the first linear trap to repeatedly eject them in pulse form; a time-of-flight mass spectrometer accelerating the ions ejected from the second linear trap in the orthogonal direction to detect them; and a controller changing the time duration of the ions in which the ions are ejected from the second linear trap or delay time from the completion of ejection to application of an accelerating voltage of the time-of-flight mass spectrometer according to the mass range of the ions ejected from the first linear trap to the second linear trap.

    • A mass spectrometer using a linear ion trap capable of efficiently suppressing the space charge and enabling scanning for a wide m/z range at a high Duty Cycle is provided. The mass spectrometer comprises: an ion source for ionizing a specimen to generate ions, an ion transport portion for transporting the ions, a linear ion trap portion for accumulating the transported ions by a potential formed axially, and a control portion of ejecting the ions within a second m/z range different from a first m/z range from the linear ion trap portion substantially at the same timing as the timing of accumulating the ions within the first m/z range to the linear ion trap portion, in which the control portion conducts control of ejecting the ions mass selectively from the linear ion trap portion by any of voltage application of (1) applying a supplemental AC voltage between at least a pair of linear ion trap rods constituting the linear ion trap portion, (2) applying a supplemental AC voltage to an end lens constituting the linear ion trap portion, and (3) applying a supplemental AC voltage between inserted lenses, the inserted lenses constituting the linear ion trap portion. The ion transportation portion having a mass selection means for selecting the ions in the first m/z range.

    • There is provided a tandem mass spectrometry that, in a quadrupole ion trap, allows small mass-number product ions to be detected without lowering the sensitivity and the resolution. In the quadrupole ion trap, ions are produced by an ion source. Next, the ions are accumulated within a 3-dimensional quadrupole electric field formed by a pair of endcap electrodes and a ring electrode. Finally, the accumulated ions are isolated and dissociated, then being detected. In this quadrupole ion trap, there are provided a mechanism for introducing a laser light, and a mechanism for generating a supplemental alternating-current electric field at the time of the ion dissociation. Moreover, the direction of the supplemental alternating-current electric field and the introduction direction of the laser light are made identical to each other.
