    • A system enables a user to communicate with another person via an external device, e.g. an audio, video, display interface. The external device includes a short-range transceiver, a memory, and an output interface. The mobile device includes two network transceivers, typically a cellular transceiver and a short-range transceiver, typically Bluetooth. In operation, the user prepares and stores a list of external devices with assigned IDs. The user further stores a list of phone numbers (phone book information) of contacts on the cellular network associated with the external devices for delivery of messages to the selected external device(s). The mobile device scans the network, and detects messages from associated contact source(s). The messages are stored by the ID. When the mobile device is within the coverage area of the external device, the mobile device transmits the message(s). The external device interprets the message for output to the intended recipient.

    • A print log is provided that stores first print jobs that have been used for printing and that include first settings. A print queue is provided that stores second print jobs that have not been used for printing and that include second settings. First settings from a selected print job in the print log are used as corresponding second settings for anew print job. The new print job is placed in the print queue to be used in response to a printer corresponding to the new print job being available. Another method is disclosed that provides a print log storing print jobs that have been used for printing. A print queue stores print jobs to be used for printing. A new print job is formed from a selected print job in the print log. The new print job is placed in the print queue and is printed.

    • A battery-powered device comprising: a memory storing software essential to the provision of normal functions of the device; a first processing section (16) comprising a data processor capable of executing the software, the device being capable of operating the first processing section in a normal mode in which it can execute the software and a low power mode; a second processing section (5) having a clock (6) for maintaining a time, and being capable of triggering behaviour of the device in response to the time of the clock preceding a user-set time by a pre-set advance interval; the device being configured to, in response to triggering by the second processing section when the first processing section is in the low power mode, cause the first processing section to enter the normal mode and to load the software.
