The character input method in an image forming apparatus including a display unit of a touch screen, includes displaying a soft keyboard on the display unit, the soft keyboard including character keys to receive character input and a display window to display input characters; selecting character keys corresponding to characters to be input; and displaying characters corresponding to the selected character keys in the display window and displaying the characters in pop-up windows adjacent to the selected character keys, wherein the image forming apparatus is operative to perform at least one of print, copy, scan, fax transmission, and email transmission functions.
