    • A method for allocating distributed Medium Access Control (MAC) resources in a Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) includes calculating an acknowledgement overhead; calculating a Medium Access Slot (MAS) overhead depending on a payload length of a frame; calculating a transfer rate; calculating a number of frame bits to be transmitted; and calculating a first number of MASs. Thereby, the method optimized a final number of MASs required per superframe. Further, a distributed MAC resource allocation apparatus includes a MAC client for determining a resource allocation scheme and an amount of resources, and for sending a request to a MAC resource management unit; a MAC physical layer for providing a received power level or the like to the MAC resource management unit; and the MAC resource management unit for determining a payload length or the like and for allocating wireless resources to devices connected to the WPAN.

    • Disclosed is an apparatus for transmitting WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network) MAC (Medium Access Control) frames and method thereof. The apparatus includes a transport frame management unit for creating MAC transport frames if data is generated from an upper protocol and application layer unit, classifying the created MAC transport frames by kinds, and managing the classified MAC transport frames by queues, a transport memory control unit for transmitting the transport frames at a high speed, and a transport frame transmission unit for responsible for the transmission of the transport frames by judging the transmission time of the frames. The apparatus can efficiently support the IEEE 802.15.3 standard by designing a queue structure capable of managing the WPAN MAC frames according to user's priority information and traffic characteristics in a WPAN device for supporting video/audio streams.

    • A method for operating a device in a personal area network (PAN), includes: obtaining physical layer information regarding a physical layer; scanning a channel on the basis of the physical layer information; selecting a channel on the basis of channel information obtained through the channel scanning process; determining whether or not there is a PAN coordinator with respect to the selected channel; and when a PAN coordinator does not exist in the selected channel, transmitting a beacon signal including information regarding a superframe structure, wherein the superframe structure includes at least one sub-superframe, and the information regarding the superframe structure includes information regarding the number of beacon slots for transmitting a beacon signal in each sub-superframe, the number of data slots for transmitting data in each sub-superframe, and the number of sub-superframes.
