    • A power supply circuit for supplying an electric power to a laser diode which is used for reading digital data on an optical memory medium, where the laser diode emits light when a current flowing therethrough exceeds a threshold level. The power supply circuit includes: a current source for outputting a current; an automatic power control circuit for controlling the current which is output from the current source so that an average power of light which is emitted from the laser diode to be equal to a predetermined value; a high frequency signal generating circuit for generating a high frequency signal; and a high frequency current control circuit for controllng a current which is supplied from the current source to the laser diode so that the current flowing through the laser diode is modulated by the high frequency signal. The minimum level of the current which flows through the laser diode, appears in each cycle of the current modulated by the high frequency signal, and is maintained below the threshold level. The high frequency modulation is carried out when reading data only, or is carried out through the writing and reading operation. Further, in the case the high frequency modulation is carried out when reading data only, the high frequency modulation may be stopped before and after the duration of the data write operation with some margins.

    • The subsystem has, in addition to a USB interface, other interfaces such as a serial ATA. The power control circuit unit has a first changeover circuit which supplies bus power to an internal power terminal by being turned on in the input state of USB bus power from the USB connector, and breaks connection with the internal power terminal by being turned off in the non-input state of the USB bus power, a diode which is insertion-connected to the positive side of the power line from the power input connector, and a second changeover circuit which is connected in parallel to the diode, supplies power of the power input connector to the internal power terminal via the diode by being turned off in the input state of USB bus power, and supplies power from the power input connector, by bypassing the diode, directly to the internal power terminal by being turned on in the non-input state of USB bus power.

    • A positioning control system for performing recording/reproducing operations by irradiating an optical beam to predetermined position on an optically recording medium, e,g., magneto-optical disk, includes a photo-detector constituted by at least two-divisional units; and a servo-error signal generating circuit which can generate at least one servo-error signal in accordance with a difference between the detection currents. Preferably, servo-error signal generating circuit includes at least one division circuit that has two pairs of transistors, two emitters in each pair of transistors being connected together into a common emitter, bias voltages of direct current type being applied to the respective bases of transistors on one side, the respective collectors of the transistors on one side being connected to a common connecting portion via resistors, the common connecting portion being connected to a power supply, the respective bases of transistors on the other side being connected together into a common base; and an integrating capacitor which is connected to the common base of transistors on the other side, and which integrates a difference between the current flowing through the common connecting portion and the reference current, to apply the thus integrated difference to the common base of transistors on the other side. Further, preferably, the photo-detector is connected to the common emitters in the respective pairs of transistors, so that the detection currents can flow through the common emitters.
