摘要： When a digital video signal is compressed, the amount of resulting data is predicted and the quantization level is controlled so as to obtain a constant bit rate. The prediction is made by computing a linear combination of a standard deviation and a number of non-zero coefficients, or by computing a sum of absolute differences between adjacent pixel values, or by computing a dynamic range of pixel values. The bit rate can also be controlled by deleting high-frequency coefficients. To avoid image degradation, the quantization level can also be controlled according to the sensitivity of small image areas to quantization noise. Sensitivity is determined by dividing an area into subblocks, which may overlap, and calculating statistics in each subblock. To reduce the amount of computation required in motion estimation, chrominance motion vectors are derived from luminance motion vectors.

摘要： This invention relates to a polyester film suited for use in optical recording medium. The polyester film of the present invention has a modulus of photoelasticity of not more than 0.9.times.10.sup.-3 mm.sup.2 /kgf, a maximum surface roughness Rt of not more than 100 nm and a mean interval Sm between adjacent surface projections of not less than 20 .mu.m, so that light scattering and interference are not caused, and optical strain is not generated even when a thermal stress or external force is exerted to the film. Thus, the polyester film of the present invention can be used as the supporting layer or cover layer of optical recording media such as optical cards, optical disks and optical recording tapes.

摘要： A heat-sensitive mimeograph stencil having a uniform shape of openings, which have an excellent balance of retention and permeation of printing ink is disclosed.The heat-sensitive mimeograph stencil includes a polyester film and a porous support made of polyester fibers, which is laminated on the polyester film, wherein the porous support constitutes a network having fused points formed by fusion of the fibers, and that membranes spanning the fibers are formed at some of the fused points, the membranes having thicknesses smaller than average diameter of the fibers. By virtue of this structure, the printed matter obtained by mimeographing using the stencil has high quality and is free from backside transcription. Further, the mimeograph stencil is excellent in ease of transportation.
