摘要： A liquid crystal display (LCD) device having a side backlight unit that minimizes or eliminates extraneous bright lines on the LCD panel. The side backlight unit includes a lamp reflector and lamp disposed on a light incident side surface of a light guide plate. A light reflection layer is formed on the inner surface of the lamp reflector, and a transparent protective layer is formed on the reflection layer. The transparent protective layer has a thickness less than 5 micrometers. The lamp reflector has arm portions that sandwich the light guide plate on the front and back surfaces at the lamp side of the light guide plate. A light transmission region between the arm portions of the lamp reflector and the front and back surfaces of the light guide plate has a thickness less than 5 micrometers.

An incoming surface 11a of a transparent light guide plate 11 is machined into a smooth surface S to correct a manufacturing tolerance during injection molding in order to form an edge portion E into a designed shape. To effectively reduce occurrence of bright lines, the edge portion E preferably has a curvature of radius or a chamfer dimension of 140 [&mgr;m] or smaller. The transparent light guide plate 11, a diffusion sheet 5, and a prism sheet 12 configure a back light unit 10 for a liquid crystal display.

摘要： A light source device and display device capable of suppressing occurrence of unevenness in luminance therefrom by using a light guide with concave or convex structural portions in combination with a reflection layer disposed adjacent the light guide and including a plurality of spacers for strategically positioning the layer's reflecting surface from the light guide. Light within the light guide is both reflected from the guide (e.g., to an adjacent display panel) or emitted onto the reflecting surface and passed back through the guide for eventual emission (e.g., to the same display panel). A reflection sheet including a base sheet, reflection layer and structural portions is also provided.

摘要： A sidelight type light source device increases the quantity of light in a corner portion of a light guide plate at low cost while meeting a demand for picture frame narrowing. An incident surface receives light from a stick-shaped light source. The incident surface includes a first incident surface its center a pair or second incident surfaces at the ends of the first incident surface. The second incident surfaces are formed on a corner portion in a width direction of the light guide plate. The second incident surfaces are set back from the first incident surface taken as a reference. Accordingly, a light introducing route is defined between the second incident surface and rubber blocks at the ends of a fluorescent light source. Light from the fluorescent lamp passes along the light introducing route where it is directly incident on the second incident surfaces of the light guide plate.

The partitioning-drive processing section performs a gain correction of multiplying each pixel signal in the input image signal by a predetermined gain factor that is set so that a value increases as a pixel position of the pixel signal goes away from the light source, and generates the light-emission pattern signal and the partitioning-drive image signal, by using gain-corrected pixel signal.
