      SOLUTION: The optical transmitter 1 includes a modulation unit 20 including a main modulator M1 with sub modulators M2, M3 formed in arms 21a, 21b, respectively. The modulation unit 20 sets up a phase difference between optical signals L11, L12 via the arms 21a, 21b and modulates the optical signals L11, L12 in accordance with data signals D11, D12 and data signals D21, D22 input from the outside. A bias control unit 50 superimposes a dither signal on the optical signals L11, L12 by means of bias signals B1, B2 and controls a bias signal B3 to be applied to a bias electrode 24a provided in the main modulator M1 on the basis of a detection result of a dither signal included in a received signal R1 output from a photodiode PD.
