    • A pseudo-plastic water based ink for a ballpoint pen comprising a colorant, water and 1 to 40% by weight of a polyglycerin fatty acid ester represented by the following Formula (I) and containing no water-soluble organic solvent: wherein R1 to R4 each represent independently an aliphatic acyl group having 12 to 20 carbon atoms or a hydrogen atom; R5′s, which may be the same or different, represent an aliphatic acyl group having 12 to 20 carbon atoms or a hydrogen atom; n represents an integer of 1 to 30; and the total number of the aliphatic acyl groups is 1 to 5. It is a pseudo-plastic water based ink for a ballpoint pen which has good aging stability and provides good writing feeling and which is excellent in cap-off resistance.

    • Provided is a water based ink composition for a writing instrument comprising at least one of nonionic surfactants comprising polyhydric alcohol fatty acid esters, ethylene oxide adducts of polyhydric alcohol fatty acid esters, ethylene oxide adducts of higher alcohols and alkylphenols, ethylene oxide and propylene oxide adducts of higher alcohols, ethylene oxide adducts of castor oil or hardened castor oil, ethylene oxide adducts of hardened castor oil fatty acid esters and ethylene oxide adducts of higher alkylamines and fatty acid amides and further comprising a colorant, a perfume and water. It is less liable to cause feathering of the lines and has durability of fragrance, in which a perfume is dispersed and retained in an aqueous medium in a stable state.

    • A pseudo-plastic water based ink for a ball point pen which causes less scattering in a viscosity depending on a production lot and has good stability with the passage of time whatever coloring materials are used and which provides a good writing feeling and is excellent in cap-off resistance. The ink described above comprises at least a colorant, water and a polyglycerin isostearic acid ester represented by the following Formula (1): wherein n represents an integer of 1 to 8; R1 to R4 each independently and R5's, which may be the same or different, represent an isostearoyl group or a hydrogen atom; and the number of the isostearoyl group is 1 to 4.

    • An action of the preventing drying at a pen tip without using water-soluble organic solvents such as glycols, glycerin and glycol ethers which have so far been used for a water based ink for a ball point pen is allotted to at least one selected from the group consisting of a reducing sugar comprising maltitol as a principal component, a reducing sugar comprising sorbitol as a principal component, reducing dextrin, reducing maltodextrin, &agr;-cyclodextrin, &bgr;-cyclodextrin and maltosylcyclodextrin, and the actions of inhibiting feathering of the drawn lines, improving discharge stability of the ink and maintaining the lubricity are allotted to at least one selected from the group consisting of an alkylene oxide adduct of polyglycerin, an alkylene oxide adduct of glycerin and an alkylene oxide adduct of trimethylolpropane. Further, a viscosity-controlling agent is added thereto to thereby prepare a water based ink for a ball point pen which has feathering resistance, good writing feeling and high discharge stability and which is excellent in drying prevention effect at a pen tip.
