    • An interactive voice response system (102) includes a protocol interface (134) that is adapted to communicate with a plurality of divergent telecommunications networks for voice communications (104, 106, 108, 110). These networks are, for example, a wireline telecommunications network, a CDMA network, a GSM network, and a voice over IP network. A controller (136) is coupled to the protocol interface to receive a plurality of common call control messages from, and to supply a plurality of common call control messages to, the protocol interface. The protocol interface converts control messages from each one of the plurality of divergent telecommunications networks into the plurality of common call control messages for the controller. The controller generates and receives the common call control messages to cause a prompt and collect interaction with a caller that is using a device that is coupled to one of the networks. The common call control messages generated by the controller are converted by the protocol interface into control messages that are appropriate for the particular network that is to receive the control message. That is, the common call control messages are converted to the network's protocol.

    • IMS gateway systems and methods are disclosed for providing notification to an IMS subscriber. An IMS gateway system described herein includes a session manager and a notification database. The notification database stores a plurality of notification definitions for pre-session, mid-session, and/or post-session notifications. The session manager identifies a triggering event for a session of an IMS subscriber. A triggering event may be the initialization of a session, the account balance of the IMS subscriber running low, the termination of a session, or any other event as defined for the session manager. The session manager identifies at least one notification definition for the triggering event from the notification database, and provides notification (e.g., a pre-session greeting, a mid-session warning of a low balance, a mid-session request to recharge the subscriber's account, a post-session goodbye message, etc) to the IMS subscriber based on the notification definitions identified for the triggering event.

    • A method and system for charging for services delivered by a communication network. After receiving a request for service in the network, usually initialed by a UE, an online charging system retrieves subscriber information, typically including subscriber account balance information, and compares the retrieved subscriber information with reverse rating policy rules to determine if reverse rating is to be performed prior to responding to the request for service. If so, the online charging system is directed to perform the reverse rating. If not, the service is provided without performing reverse rating. A dummy quota may be generated if reverse rating is not performed. In one embodiment, reverse rating may be performed after a service session was allowed to commence without reverse-rating if the session consumes an amount of service reaching a threshold determined after the operation of determining whether reverse rating is to be performed.
