摘要： A film for optical elements is formed by a liquid crystalline composition comprising the following components (a) and (b): (a) a liquid crystalline polymer which exhibits an optically positive uniaxial property; and (b) a polycyclic compound having a molecular weight of not more than 1,000 and wherein a plurality of alicyclic rings and/or aromatic rings are connected together through a linkage chain of 0 to 4 main-chain carbon atoms bonded to different ring carbon atoms, with hydrocarbon groups each having 1 to 20 carbon atoms being bonded respectively to both end rings through a linkage chain of 0 to 4 main-chain carbon atoms, an orientation form formed in the state of liquid crystal of said liquid crystalline composition being fixed.

摘要： A novel dioxetane compound is provided having a cationically polymerizable oxetane group, which compound is excellent in compatibility with a liquid crystalline compound and a non-liquid crystalline compound. An optical film is also provided with excellent liquid crystal orientation retention properties and mechanical strength, produced by aligning a composition of the dioxetane compound and a cationically polymerizable compound in a liquid crystal orientation and fixing the liquid crystal orientation by polymerization. Further, a liquid crystal display device is provided with the optical film.

摘要： The present invention provides a novel compound which is suitable as the starting material of a side-chain type liquid crystalline polymeric substance having a reactive group which is excellent in reactivity upon fixation of the liquid crystal orientation structure. The novel compound is a (meth)acrylic compound having an oxetanyl group represented by the formula wherein R1 is hydrogen or methyl, R2 is hydrogen, methyl, or ethyl, “-L1-M-L2-” represents a mesogen portion, and n and m are each an integer of 0 to 10. The present invention also provides a liquid crystal film containing the side-chain type liquid crystalline polymeric substance and a liquid crystal display mounted with such a liquid crystal film.

摘要： Provided is a liquid crystal display device of a TN type which is improved on a display contrast, gray scale characteristics and viewing angle characteristics of a display color. A liquid crystal cell of a TN type for drive is sandwiched by a pair of upper and lower polarizing plates and at least one compensating film which has an extinction axis angle of 5 to 90 degrees as an absolute value and an optical rotating angle of 0.5 to 10 degrees as an absolute value, wherein signs of the extinction axis angle and the optical rotating angle are contrary to each other, is inserted between the liquid crystal cell and the upper polarizing plate, or between the liquid crystal cell and the lower polarizing plate, or at least two compensating films are respectively inserted between the liquid crystal cell and the upper polarizing plate, and between the liquid crystal cell and the lower polarizing plate, wherein a quasi fast axis vector of a compensating film and an easy axis vector of an electrode substrate nearer the compensating film of the liquid crystal cell satisfy an angular relation therebetween in the range of -30 to +30 degrees or +150 to +210 degrees.

摘要： A viewing angle compensator for a liquid crystal display having characteristics such as being able to diminish the visual angle dependency of the liquid crystal display is provided. The viewing angle compensator of the present invention comprises a light transmitting base and a film of a liquid crystalline polymer formed on the base, the liquid crystalline polymer taking in the state of liquid crystal a structure wherein a refractive index in the thickness direction is larger than a refractive index in any direction within the plane of the polymer and assuming a glassy state at a temperature lower than the liquid crystal transition point thereof.
