    • A developing device having a developing sleeve loosely mounted on the peripheral surface of a cylindrical developing roller. Both end portions of the developing sleeve are pressed against the developing roller by a pair of guide pads so that a part of the developing sleeve keeps contacting the developing roller. The force applied by the the pair of the guide pads to the developing sleeve is in such an extent that driving force of the developing roller is transmitted to the developing sleeve in the portion in which the developing sleeve contacts the developing roller and that the developing sleeve is allowed to rotate in correspondence with the rotation of the developing roller. A blade member for forming a thin layer of toner on the developing sleeve is in contact with the peripheral surface of the developing sleeve. Fine irregularities are formed on the peripheral surface of the developing sleeve so as to hold toners adhered thereto. Compared with a developing sleeve having no irregularities, fine irregularities formed on the inner peripheral surface of the developing sleeve increases frictional force in the portion in which the developing sleeve contacts the developing roller. Fine irregularities are formed on both the peripheral and inner peripheral surface of the developing sleeve by an electroforming using a mother roller having irregularities on the peripheral surface thereof.

    • A method of managing a memory in a computer system including a processor executing programs and the memory, the memory including a first area, which is managed by a garbage collector, and a second area, which is not managed by the garbage collector, the method including the steps executed by the processor of: checking a reference relation of basic point data associated with the second area by tracing references from the basic point data; when the reference relation of the basic point data has a structure including a reference to data belonging to the same class as the class of the basic point data, determining that particular data out of data constituting the structure is prohibited from being migrated to the second area; and migrating data stored in the first area out of data remaining after excluding the particular data from the data constituting the structure to the second area.

    • In a battery charger for an electric appliance powered by an incorporated rechargeable battery such as an electric shaver or electric toothbrush, etc., a charger circuit and charging terminals are incorporated in a casing. The charger circuit supplies a charger current to the rechargeable battery through the charging terminals. The interior of the casing is divided into lower circuit compartment for receiving the charger circuit and an upper terminal compartment by a partition carrying the charging terminals in such a manner as to make a water-tight seal between the circuit and terminal compartments. The charging terminals project into the terminal compartment, are electrically connected to the charger circuit, and also are accessible through individual holes formed in a portion of the casing for connection with the rechargeable battery. Therefore, even if the battery charger is used under a wet conditions, and water flows into the terminal compartment through the holes, water intrusion into the circuit compartment from the terminal compartment is stopped by the water-tight seal.

    • A memory management method is provided to manage a memory in which areas of a garbage collected Java heap memory and a non-garbage collected external heap memory can be secured, by using a program executed by a processor in a computer. If it is judged that there is no reference to all data arranged in the external heap memory or starting point data of reference relations included in the all data, from data arranged outside the external heap memory, then the external heap memory is judged to be capable of being deallocated. As a result, it becomes possible to implement memory management in which garbage collection needing a long time program stop is not conducted and an additional API is not used.
