    • Organopolysiloxane compositions are provided which are curable to elastomers and exhibit an excellent adhesion to the various surfaces of metals, glasses, ceramics and the like. The organopolysiloxane composition comprises (a) a diorganopolysiloxane terminated at both chain ends with vinyl groups directly bonded to the terminal silicon atoms in a molecule, (b) an organohydrogenpolysiloxane having at least two hydrogen atoms bonded directly to the silicon atoms in a molecule and at least one epoxy or ester group bonded to the silicon atom through an Si--C linkage in a molecule, and (c) a platinum catalyst. The compositions are useful for applications, such as, potting of electronic circuit units, coating of electrical parts, impregnation of fly-back transformers for television sets and coating of junctions for semiconductor devices.

    • There is disclosed a method for preparing a rubbery cured product of an organopolysiloxane. This product is free from the problems caused by the limited crosslinking velocity or by the necessity of admixing a foreign material such as a crosslinking catalyzing curing agent or a photosensitizer. In this method, a substantially linear diorganopolysiloxane terminated at both chain ends with triorganosilyl groups, each of the triorganosilyl groups having, preferably, 2 or 3 vinyl groups bonded to the silicon atom, is irradiated with ultraviolet light having an energy distribution predominantly rich in the wavelength region from 100 to 300 nm or, preferably, from 180 to 250 nm whereby the energy of the ultraviolet light is most effectively utilized for effecting the crosslinking of the organopolysiloxane. When rapid decrease of the surface tackiness and rapid curing in the depth of a relatively thick layer are desired in the photocuring of the organopolysiloxane by the ultraviolet irradiation, the organopolysiloxane is admixed with small amounts of an organic peroxide.

    • An improved curable organosilicon composition is formulated by blending a resin-type organopolysiloxane containing vinyl groups equivalent to 2.0 to 40 mole % of the organic groups with an organohydrogenpolysiloxane containing at least 2 hydrogen atoms directly bonded to the silicon atoms and epoxy and/or ester groups bonded to the silicon atoms through carbon atoms in the presence of a platinum catalyst, in which hydrosilation reaction takes place between the vinyl groups and the silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms to give crosslinked structure to volume cured. The compositions have a sufficiently long pot life and on curing create strong adhesion to metal, glass and ceramic and the like surfaces. The cured compositions have very high transparency and good thermal stability, and they are useful for various applications such as the manufacture of electronic parts.
