摘要： A stream data recording apparatus records stream data in such a manner that the head of each video coding unit and the head of a series of audio coding unit corresponding to each video coding unit contained in the stream data coincide with the heads of access units of a recording medium. Utilizing the structure of stream data so recorded and the random accessibility of the recording medium, a stream data replaying apparatus and a stream data editing apparatus replay or edit the stream data freely on a video coding unit basis. By replacing stream data recorded on the recording medium on a video coding unit basis, the recording apparatus realizes endless recording that does not require complex file manipulation.

A plurality of images read from a randomly accessible data storage unit for storing the images recorded by an image recording unit are synthesized into a single screen by an image synthesizer. An information processing unit reads from the image recording unit a plurality of image contents recorded at different time points or a group of images recorded at a plurality of different time points in a given one image content and causes the image synthesizer to display, by synthesizing the image contents or the images, as the case may be, on a single screen.

摘要： An object of the present invention is to provide a system which reliably protects a copyright of contents in a deciphered version without unreasonably restricting the execution of the copyright. To this end, according to the present invention, there is provided a system including a storage medium, application executing means for activating an application, access monitoring means for monitoring the status of access of the application to the contents by associating inherent information for the application brought into an activated status by the application executing means with inherent information for the contents accessed by the application, and filtering means for enciphering the contents with the inherent information for the application when the application writes the contents into the storage medium while deciphering the contents with the inherent information for the application when the application reads out the contents from the storage medium.

A division processing unit divides the information to be stored in the information storage devices and distributes the divided information to the information storage devices. When the number of the information storage devices is changed, the division control unit controls the division processing unit so that the information stored in the information storage devices is divided by a dividing method suitable for the number of the information storage devices after being changed.

摘要： The present invention relates to a method of and an apparatus for compressing/decompressing data, to improve the compression ratio of sliding-dictionary-type Ziv-Lempel codes. A sliding-dictionary-type data compression method finds a matching character string in a coding character string and in a coded character string stored in a dictionary 101. According to the length of the matching character string, the method chooses a raw data mode that codes the matching character string that must consist of a single character as it is, or a reproduction mode that codes the position and length in the dictionary 101 of the matching character string. The method allocates consecutive numbers to different codes to be prepared under the raw data mode and reproduction mode. The method relates any code prepared under one of the raw data mode and reproduction mode to a corresponding one of the consecutive numbers, codes the number according to a code book, and rearranges the code book to shorten the length of the code of the number.
