    • Configuration versioning and partitioning are provided as methods for managing large configuration for a network element such as a router or switch. In one aspect, a method performed in a network element, the network element comprising a plurality of software components that control operations and features of the network element, wherein operations and features of the network element are defined in part by a configuration, comprises creating and storing one or more configuration partition namespaces each comprising a version identifier and one or more configuration tuples; associating one or more of the configuration partition namespaces in a configuration partition; associating one of the software components and the one or more configuration partition namespaces; and creating and storing information identifying one of the software components, its associated configuration partition namespaces, and the version identifier of each of the configuration partition namespaces.

    • In one example, a network device receives a packet to be forwarded according to a label switching protocol, determines a service to be performed on the packet by a service network device, sends a label request message to the service network device, wherein the label request message indicates support for labels having a particular length, wherein the particular length is larger than twenty bits (e.g., forty bits), and wherein the label request message specifies the service to be performed on the packet, receives, in response to the label request message, a label mapping message defining a label of the particular length, appends the label to the packet to form a Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS)-encapsulated packet, and forwards the MPLS-encapsulated packet according to the label switching protocol.

    • Systems and methods are provided for labeling inserted pages within a print preview of a print job. The system receives print data comprising logical pages, and receives instructions for inserting pages among the logical pages of the print data. The system further receives a request for a print preview for the print data, identifies inserts for the print data based on the instructions, rasterizes the logical pages of the print data and the inserts to generate sheet images for the print preview, and includes non-printing marks in the sheet images for the inserts that distinguish the inserts from rasterized logical pages of the print data. The system further transmits the sheet images of the print preview.
