    • Pixel magnification/demagnification apparatus and method are disclosed for controlling the size of reproducible image, the image being represented by video image signals or pixels generated by a raster scanner (12). A binary rate multiplier (102) is used for image size control along the X-axis, the multiplier being programmed to the size image desired to vary the frequency of the pixel clock signals output by the multiplier. A control flip-flop (45) astride the image pixel stream is driven by the multiplier clock signals to speed up or reduce the rate at which image pixels are output with consequent change in image size along the X-axis.
      For image size control along the Y-axis, a phase lock loop (86) control with programmable frequency generator (82) is provided for the scanning carriage drive motor (39). The frequency output of the generator is settable to the image size desired, changes in image size along the Y-axis being achieved either by increasing or decreasing the rate at which the scanning carriage (32) is moved.

    • A color marking device including a control system for calibration of the device based upon dynamic color balance control of an output image. The system comprises a front end converter for converting an input signal representative of a target image comprising a preselected color into a device-dependent control signal in accordance with a device TRC, a color marking device for outputting an output image in response to the control signal, a sensor for measuring a parameter from the output image representative of a color of the output image, and, a point-wise controller for comparing the parameter with a corresponding parameter from the target image and constructing adjusted controlled points for the device TRC when the measured parameter and the corresponding parameter vary by a preselected value, a color balance controller for constructing an adjusted device TRC from the controlled points, whereby subsequently generated output images are output with the adjusted device TRC and, more accurately represent target input images.

    • An image output terminal (14) in a printer includes a control board providing an interface between an electronic subsystem (18) of the printer and a printing unit (28) of the image output terminal. An image disk (26) can be provided in the image output terminal (14) for receipt of image data from the electronic subsystem (18) prior to submission to the printing unit. The control board further provides an interface between the electronic subsystem (18) and the image disk (26) and between the image disk (26) and the printing unit (28) such that communication is decoupled between the electronic subsystem (18) and the printing unit (28) as data is printed while the transfer of data from the electronic subsystem (18) to the image disk (26) is allowed during printing. The control board controls all communication between the electronic subsystem (18) and the printing unit. The control board is able to detect fault conditions in the electronic subsystem, printing unit (28) and control board itself.
