摘要： There is disclosed a porous emboli deflector for preventing cerebral emboli while maintaining cerebral blood flow during an endovascular or open surgical procedure. The device prevents the entrance of emboli of a size able to cause stroke (such as greater than 100 microns) from entering either the right or left common carotid arteries, and/or the right or left vertebral arteries by deflecting emboli downstream of these vessels. The device can be placed prior to any manipulation of the heart or aorta allowing maximal protection of the brain during the index procedure. The deflector has a low profile within the aorta which allows sheaths, catheters, or wires used in the index procedure to pass. Also disclosed are methods for insertion and removal of the deflector.

摘要： A surgical fastener applier having a handle and a fastener housing extending from the handle. The housing contains at least one anvil movable within the staple housing, the anvil has a proximal position and a distal position. When in the distal position a distal end of the anvil extends distal to the distal end of the staple housing. The housing contains a plurality of surgical fasteners each of which in the shape of a loop. At least one of the fasteners is placed around a portion of the anvil when in the distal position. The applier has a first mechanism for moving the anvil distally after a fastener has been deployed, and a second mechanism for moving the anvil distally after a fastener has been deployed. The second means is independent of the first means.

摘要： A tissue fixation device may include a suture, a first securing element connected to a first portion of the suture, and a second securing element connected to a second portion of the suture. The first and second securing elements are each rotatable from a first position during deployment of the tissue fixation device that is suitable for each securing element to pass through a respective hole formed in tissue to a second position when the tissue fixation device is deployed that inhibits each securing element from passing through the respective hole formed in the tissue. An exemplary method of fixing tissue may include creating two holes in the tissue and deploying a tissue fixation device having a suture connecting two securing elements by advancing each securing element through a respective hole in the tissue and causing each securing element to rotate to a position that inhibits the securing element from passing through the respective hole.
